Some of the teams planning to go to China in August may not be applying for IRI, as it was recommended they ship their robots by late June. We still applied and elected to pay the higher air costs to China, should we get accepted and attend IRI.

I doubt there will be, 4488, 955, and 2471 don't have the money, 1983 historically doesn't go to IRI, 1318 might, but last I heard they weren't planning on applying. 3663 and 2046 are both unknowns to me, but I doubt they will apply.
It's not a bad year to be missing IRI, considering the game.

Its just too long of a trip to go, especially considering the game. We could probably justify going if the game was better and our members were not burnt out, but not this year.

I figured that was part of the reason. We wouldn't apply for the same reason, even if we had the money.

I know skunks are considering it because Chezy Champs is not likely to be an option. Either way PNW will once again be represented on the volunteer crew. 🎥

We are not planning on going to IRI. We would really like to go to Chezy Champs but we are not sure that is going to be held this year. We are also considering going to Northern California for one of their events in the fall if they will let us in. IRI should be a great tournament! Lots of top teams there!

We haven't ruled it out yet; we're still working on confirming a date with the school that ideally is later than Labor Day.

Why later than Labor Day? Isn't that one of the few good weeks for teams to travel without missing as much school / work. We were considering applying this year if it was Labor Day again.

The preponderance of feedback we got last year was that later would be better for teams and volunteers. With local teams, particularly, none of them had had much chance to recruit any new students by that point last year.

Applications are still open. Invitations won't be going out until more than a week from now. I wouldn't expect the registered team list to be reasonably complete before the end of the month.

We will all miss 254 at IRI this year - IMO you guys and Simbotics were basically neck and neck by the end of regional season for #1 robot in the world.

I'm gonna say that 5402 probably won't be applying to IRI this year. Money was tight by the end of the year and with about a third of the team graduating I think the focus will be on getting ready for CAGE Match this fall.

Probably one of the scariest robots in KC, and would've done a lot more had there been an elite capping robot around. Any idea if the rest of the R7 alliance is going to apply as well?

As of 11 PM Saturday, here is the list of applications.
From some of the posts above, there are some teams missing from this list.
This list is based on an automatic forwarding from the website, and sometimes application information does not make it through. We will compare this list to the list created on the website to make a final application listing.
If you think your team has applied, and you are not on this list, please send me a PM.
This list has 88 teams listed. 573 and 5484 had to withdraw (but they are still in this listing).

I hope to see some machines like this at IRI! Very unique design. (Also, pardon me if I'm wrong but would 1657 be the first Isreali team to go to IRI?)

I totally agree. With all of the unique conveyor belt robots this year, I didnt get to see any personally all season including champs. At IRI, one of the key highlights is getting up close with robots and their mentors inquiring about robot designs and their process on how they came up with their respective solutions.

No, I believe it was 1574 several years ago.
Possibility of an alliance of 1,11, and 111? That would be so cool!

1577 Came to IRI in 2007 so 1657 will be the second Israeli team attending to IRI. I got the chance to see them on the Israeli Regional and even compete with them on qualification 1 they do have an amazing robot! Wishing them luck!

While that would be awesome, I have a feeling if either MORT team gets invited this year, it will be 193. :o
I was rooting for something similar to happen in 2012 when 11, 111, and 1111 were all on Newton (http://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2012new).

could you also add another column on the first page of something like "rank of those applied"? this would be in addition to the world rank based of OPR or CCWM as shown on the first page but also show iri applicant ranks compared to all those applied.

I'm not quite understanding your request.
If you scroll to the leftmost column on the first page, you can use that to provide relative ranks of the applicants after you conduct whatever sorting you choose. Just perform your sort and then fill down in the first column 1 through 106.

If you want to do a multi-criteria sort, right click anywhere in the data table, select "Sort" and then "Custom Sort...".
Also, if you click the + signs next to the state and province locations in the pivot table on the right, that location will expand to show which teams from that location applied.

FINAL RELEASE based on the final 108-team applicant list. I deleted my prior post with the spreadsheet based on the partial applicant list.
************************
For fun, I put together an Excel spreadsheet to summarize some stats for the 108 applicants.
My data source was Ed Law's final post-championship Excel release, which can be found here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2174).
Please note that Einstein results are not factored into this spreadsheet.
Playoff Points are assigned per event based on the "30 for winner, 20 for finalist, 10 for semifinalist" method used by districts.
There is no weighting given to regionals vs. districts vs. district championships vs. divisions (good luck with that), nor is there any consideration for whether playoff points were earned as an alliance captain, 1st pick, or 2nd pick. If you want to play around with those things, more power to ya.
You can sort the information however you like, but instead of defaulting the list to boring old OPR, I did a multi-criteria sort based on the following sort order:
Average Playoff Points Per Event (largest to smallest)
Average Event Seed (smallest to largest)
OPR Rank (smallest to largest)
Finally, here's the breakdown of applicants by location:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_I5IsV8zDAY/VVqWC6Z_6XI/AAAAAAAAMbU/DIwuBU2tspE/w506-h930/IRI%2BApplicant%2BCounts%2Bby%2BLocation.JPG

I believe it has been removed now but it was originally under the 2015 IRI Application (http://www.indianaroboticsinvitational.org/2014-iri-application/) tab while applications were still open. During the period when they were open it listed some other dates such as when the applications open, when they close, etc. He is correct though, the website, when it had the dates up, said on or close to May 22.

I can assure you this is a great idea. Being at IRI and speaking to all the mentors and students of amazing teams while they're not in the heat of competition is probably one of the most valuable things you can do with your time if you want to learn from the best. I highly recommend doing it!

I haven't attended IRI with a team since 2009 (having attended every year following as a spectator), but it is always a fun time. The matches are never boring, the teams are friendly, and the laid back yet competitive atmosphere is second to none. Definitely consider coming as a spectator, or better yet, a volunteer!

Seriously though. It's so hard to look at this list and whittle it down to less than 75 teams in any objective manner whatsoever.
Try to, you'll be knocking out teams with multiple medals this season, teams capable of 2+ stacks/match, teams with Einstein banners, historical IRI attendees. It's crazy the kind of quality across the board this year, as more teams this year had the opportunity to succeed at the championship level than ever before.
I don't envy the IRI crew's job whatsoever right now.

There is probably a lot of thought and that goes into making the acceptance list for IRI. They could give an eta on when it could be done but they probably want to make sure it is right, and I don't think anyone is getting paid to do this. So I am assuming that there is a lot of extra time and dedication being put in right now to making this list.

Hey, IRI committee, the suspense is killing me. Your making this entirely to hard and time consuming. Get a pack or 2 of small index cards. Write the team numbers on them. Pick the top 30 OPR teams. Put them to the side. Take the remaining cards over to the stairs and throw them towards the top. Then take the top 30 OPR cards. Starting at the top of the stairs pick up cards from the top down until you have as many teams as you want to invite. This can be over and done with in an hour or less. You can post the results tonight.

I did not mean for my post to be take negatively. I looked at the application list and can objectively fill about 1/2 the slots. Below there, the choices become extremely hard. I don't know how to do it. Which led to my conclusion that hell you might as well throw the cards up the stairs. So after the list is released , it would be just as interesting to here from the committee just how they approached this humongous problem.

I really don't take this negatively. I really think this is the 'sad' truth that, depending on next year, something will have to change and what ever it is it will be a hard decision to make. You doing this really shows how hard it is for the committee doing this and why it may be taking longer than expected. 'Throwing cards up the stairs' is something that shouldn't be happening, I hope, and shows that this committee, when getting to the last maybe half of the teams, really has the check every little detail and go over every team there much more than 1 or 2 times. This committee, I don't know what is going on there but TAKE YOUR TIME! Better to take more time than say, "Well they had 1 more point in average in their first regional over the other team, lets pick them."; I'd rather have them saying, "They improved the most the season and shown a lot of commitment, lets pick them."
You know, the IRI committee can solve the selection process with an IRIsplit.

I won't go into much detail about the "process", except to say we look at Regional / District performance, through-season improvement, CHP performance, draft order, event rankings, other data and uniqueness.
The only guaranteed spots each year are the previous year winning alliance and the SIlent Auction spots. The Host Teams are evaluated against the same criteria as all others and are not guaranteed a spot.
