"They leave here with a whole new perspective on the world."

From Dean's mouth, straight through CNN to their worldwide audience. Any more questions about inspiration and culture change?

Certainly one of the better videos I've ever seen.
Key takeaways:

FIRST was labeled as a "mentor-based program"

Great, unobtrusive, intuitive description and explanation of the game

Very diverse crowd highlighted here

The b-roll chosen to use in this video suggests to me the camera operators/director/producer has done homework and had an understanding of the event coming in

This looks great! We should do two of these events each year!

Thanks for sharing this Gary!

After watching this, I would too agree that this is definitely one of the best videos from the media about FIRST.

This is what FIRST needs, good coverage from the media, just like this. This will outreach to millions of potential supporters or sponsors or anyone interested in robotics.

I agree, Alex. CNN's crew was very thorough and spent a ton of time over two days with lots of interviews and footage taken of our team's (and others) kids, robot, field and pit action and the final product is fantastic. Great editing job for sure.

This was good any publicity is good. We will continue to work with our sponsor "cable vision" to get news crews out all around for first and I'm happy 1796 was able to get some good recognition.

Anyone else find it amusing that Dean said that most students won't remember the robot that won a year from now?

He obviously wasn't talking about CD users. I think to be a user you have to be able to recite from memory every winning robot and major robot award won from 1992 til now.

One of the things I am very impressed with is the quality of footage they got, while still not being obtrusive to teams or field staff. There was a decent amount of footage from Carver, where I was a referee, and I don't ever remember seeing them around the field. I wish all of the media would be that good. Often times field staff is tripping over media, but they did an awesome job with the video, and capturing what needed to be captured. Kudos to CNN for this awesome spotlight on FIRST!

It is great that FIRST is getting national attention! It definitely is a program that deserves to become as recognized as much (or more) as any other sport or activity.

In our school, we all watch cnn student news before lunch. This story was also on cnn student news as well. I almost cried because I was so happy that 2,000 students in our school were finally seeing what our team put so much effort into. It was really cool seeing that story and I couldn't stop smiling after that.
