For those not in the U.S., and those whose education has somehow missed actually reading the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men* are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

To those who are denied these rights, I commend the full text (http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html).:yikes:

* - I have always read "all men" as having the older, non-gender specific, meaning. If you don't think the language changes, try listening to the last few words of the theme from the Flintstones TV series (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s13X66BFd8) through 21st century ears. Did you know that compulsion used to mean that you were being forced to do something, usually through a threat of bodily harm?
