Don't get me wrong I dislike this game as much as the next guy, but many teams no longer have their 2014 robots. Just curious if and how you planned for this, because I can imagine a slightly lower then usual attendance for this event.

We sent out survey's and got attendance #'s, we'll have about the same amount of robots as we did last year or more.
We do know there are a few teams that we won't get back this year due to switching the game but we also had teams that would not come for the 2015 game. So we picked 2014.
Yeah I'm with Marcow on this one. I love the 2014 game and our robot is still semi-together enough for demos but I know lots of teams have completely scavenged their robots :( (and ours is no longer calibrated for shooting into the proper height of the goal).

Along with our 2014 robot "Beca" (who has been faithfully doing demo's for over a year), 1678 will be building 2 additional robots for Madtown Throwdown!
Our students are excited for some fun off-season projects and good drive practice at Madtown Throwdown Throwback.
Huge thanks to RC and the rest of the teams that are making this happen!

RC, great move on this. Excited to watch this year's MTTD!
Also, while I understand some teams may be concerned about not having a robot together for this, remember that this is an off season event that someone else is organizing for you. Additionally, as 1678 is doing, it serves as an awesome opportunity to rebuild old bots or make new ones to train students in a way they'd actually be able to compete with their finished product.
Trust me, those of us who can't attend are definitely jealous.

There are also 4-5 other CA offseasons playing the 2015 game, so teams have plenty of options.

This is an awesome decision, honestly. 2014 is a much more exciting game and definitely something I would be more willing to attend than a 2015 game, even if I had to fix up an old robot to do it. If only MTTD were on the east coast, I'd so be there!
2015's a terrible game; good on 1323 and 1671 for accepting that and moving on.

You guys just gave TBA a huge headache. I'll see how hard it is to special case MTTD...
Funny thing is, I supported playing the 2014 game in my feedback! :P

If this is streamed, I'll definitely tune in to watch some good ol Aerial Assault :D
Awesome decision!

Wohoo! 971 is really excited to come play. Thanks RC and crew for making this happen. We've already stripped down Mammoth and had the superstructure re-welded to fix all the welds that broke from last year. We will be bringing 2 Mammoths and most likely our third robot from last year as well.
Our team has benefitted enormously from building another robot specifically for the Throwdown every year. I'd highly recommend building one. The longer timeframe allows us to focus on teaching the students and getting them ready for the hectic build season. Throw together an inbounder in a couple meetings and come join the fun!

971, 9971, and 8971 all had a blast. The Throwdown is one of the highlights of our season each year, and we always look forwards to it. There were impacts, there was D, there was counter-D, robots fell over, everything which was missing from the 2015 game. Thanks RC, Alan, and crew for putting on a great event, and for 1671, 3495, 1323, 4973, 1678, and 5012 for playing with us in all 3 of our alliances!
I personally enjoyed playing with 1671 and 3495. 1671 has become a force to be reckoned with over the last couple years, which is really cool to see. They worked hard all weekend and managed the trussing leg of the cycle very well. 3495 played a great inbound as the 24th pick (what a steal!), and played some wicked D between inbounds.
I'm really looking forwards to the 2016 MTTD competition.

But was there Players Smoked BBQ? ;)

Once again, 1678 had a fantastic time at MTTD!
Huge thank you to RC, Alan, 1323 and 1671 for putting on another great event. We love the low-key, student-centric culture that MTTD celebrates.
Most importantly, thank you for playing 2014 again. Some game play highlights that stood out to me:
971's catch in Finals Match 2 (I believe the last 60pt cycle in California was this match (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB0QtwIwAGoVChMI9rfx2fGXyQIVghKUCh20ZQMK&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Ddh Y_p3qhSkY&usg=AFQjCNH_Gp9dfThiiMs4IbZgavjZu4V6xw&sig2=MfrpjgNzYgA_GJMQES-SYQ&bvm=bv.107763241,d.dGo))
973's 2 ball auto, when the second ball missed, bounced off the low goal, then back up into the high goal
All of stick-bot's in-bounding prowess (including seeding 7th!)
Plenty of hard-hitting defense!
Huge thank you to all the teams that came out and made MTTD 2015 a reality! We look forward to MTTD 2016!
-Mike
