We are looking at using new servos this year that are not made by Tetrix. I looked into the game manuals and the rule for whether or not we can use other servos is not specified. It says that we are only allowed to use the servo controllers provided by Tetrix but does the same apply for the actual servos? Any information on this would be helpful.

For an official answer, ask it in the Official Q & A Section of the FTCfourms.

An Un-official Answer: Yes, you can use other servos than the ones provided by tetrix, but they need to fit within the specs of the servo controller.

You can also use:

Legaacy Tetrix Controller
Legaacy Matrix Controller
MRI Core Device Interface Module

RE04: "Any compatible servo may be used"

MRI Servo Controller info: "Total servo power limit 6 volts DC. 5A max"

Using the MRI controller, it looks like you can use any servo that has <= 5 Amp power draw @ 6 VDC

I'd ID the servo you'd like to use and then post a question at the FTC rules forum about its legality as the game manual isn't very explicit about the limits. http://ftcforum.usfirst.org/showthread.php?4624-Robot-Inspection-and-Build-Rules-Electrical-Answer-Thread&p=19054&viewfull=1#post19054
