On the plane back from Florida, I was talking to some fellow team members and realized that we had all of the ingrediants to start a band (except for pretty faces). With Casey on drums, Mike O'Leary on bass, Ryan Joyce on guitar and myself on guitar/vocals/kazoo/powertrip, we could put a band together for Florida by next year. What I want to know is if anyone would be interested in a performance in Florida and if so, suggestions on making it work (getting equipment down there, using a P.A., getting permission etc.). I would be willing to get things together and post mp3's on the website if people would be interested.

If your drummer gets sick, let me know. I used to play in a band that played the night club circuit in Michigan.

(bad french accent)You stole my bit! You stole my bit! You american pig dog! Your mother was a hampster and your father smelt of elderberries! Oh poo... Well, just thought i would point that out you silly silly little boy, you.

To make it work you need me on the pogostick with the kazoo in hand playing along with you guys. I got charisma! And the lungs to do it too!

Okay, nuff o that. Depending on what I do next year (i/e how big im involved with volunteering) I may convince My college kazoo band to come up and play. We're the TRIBE OF THE FLYING GOLDEN BLOWFISH'S MARCHING KAZOO BAND. There's a good 25 or so of us. We also do performances and may work up a FIRST musical. Would that be a kicker? I would love to have a band like this! You guys could play at closing or you could have your own dance party in Epcot. I'd be willing to be in on the stage show (not much musical talent here except singing). I'd even wear my silver wig, or I could stick with the blond spikes. At any rate I think making a band would be a great idea. One question though, what kind of music?

We'll play anything good, but mostly punk (I mean GOOD punk) grunge, and metel. Good rock. I have a band back in my town that's kind of the same thing and we have yet to find someone who doesn't like us (besides the parents who have to put up with practice sessions).

Think Nirvana, Green Day and Creed (minus the god jibberjabber) all put in a blender set to "Liquify", pour smothly onto a cookie sheet, bake at 350° for 20 minutes, and let cool. That's what we do.

I just think their ever so depresing lyrics composed by
someone who killed himself is kinda out of place at a
robotics competition, and just slightly misses the
spirit of first, a little. something upbeat would mesh
better, in my opinion.

The spirit of first is one of sportsmanship, kindness, charing, and other things of that sort. music expressing noble centiments like this would mesh.

besides, the real way that nirvana type music doesn't mesh is because it doesn't fit the festive atmosphere of a first competition.

I think that first is supposed to be uplifting, and
everyone's supposed to have a good time. and i think
that if the actual words and the tone of the music
aren't enough to thoroughly depress you, which i do,
the thought that you're listening to someone who was so
sad that they thought the best way out was to put a gun
in their mouth should suffice.

You can't tell me that music doesn't move you like
that. there are songs that when you hear them, they
just get you movin, like the rocky song, or the "we
will we will rock you" one, and various others. there
are also songs that make you happy, like bob marley's
"everthing is going to be alright", and songs that
depress you, like nirvana's songs. I think everyone
reacts this way to songs, and where as they may be
different from person to person, a large percentage of
people would say that nirvana songs and songs of that
ilk depress them. i think their songs are designed too
depress.

I'm not saying that i'm gonna hear the song and break
down and start crying, though i know people are moved

the atmospher down to an at least not-as-happy

Same here. Nirvana is ok, but listening to a guy singin' about "Lookin' Down the Barrel of a Gun" is not my idea of positivity at an event meant to inspire, which usually means uplifting spirits, kids and adults around the country, and I guess the world.

Yes, music does move me very much, I agree with that. What I don't agree with is that Nirvana is a depressing band in general. Sure, it has some depressing songs, but most bands do. Music is about feelings, and no one feels depressed all the time, just like no one is "upbeat" all the time. Music is a way of expression. I can name quite a few songs by Nirvana that are happy.

First, it's call "three little birds". "every little thing is gonna be all right" is one of the lines, and alot of peole know it as "everything is gonna be alright". and though there may be some none sad songs in nirvana's portolio, but they are the exception, not the rule. and the ones that ren't sad are more often than not mador some other time of not uplifting emotion.

Coldplay is a great band and if you like Nena you should listen to the Venga Boys. It's really a group of girls with awesome techno beats. Download the mp3 Boom Boom Boom Boom and you'll see what I mean. If you guys could pull off sound like that you would be gods and I would bow to you on stage. Some other good German music is Falco, but that takes a certain type of person to enjoy, it's an aquired taste, so to speak.

we need a name
remember last year when we were all kicking around ideas to name youre band? maybe we should revive some of the names we tossed out...bic pentameter, free beer, etc.
or maybe we could open the question up to everyone on cd here...any ideas for a name?

: On the plane back from Florida, I was talking to some fellow team members and realized that we had all of the ingrediants to start a band (except for pretty faces).
