View Full Version : Spike Relay Input
Does anyone know the pinout to the Spike Relay module where the PWM cable plugs in? I'm guessing that black is ground, Red is Power (+5V), and Yellow/White is the input.

Yeah, that sounds right. If you're looking for info on the Spike Modules try these two sites from Innovation First: Spike Users Maual (http://www.innovationfirst.com/FIRSTRobotics/pdfs/SpikeUsersManual.pdf) or Spike Installation Manual (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/newreply.php?s=&action=newreply&postid=87235). I hope this helps! :)

The input to the Spikes is two opto isolators with resistors in series. They each drive a transistor which switches the coil currents. The input to a Spike, and the Relay outputs from the RC, are ground (black sounds good for this) and switched positive voltage on the other two wires, one controlling each of the two individual armatures of the relay.

info:
The Red Spikes' output terminals both rest connected to ground, and when either one of the two coils is energised, the armature corresponding to the energized coil, is brought to +12V., and current flows in the output load either to the grounded other armature terminal or, if connected as permitted last year, to ground.
yeah, after I posted i realised that two of the wires had to be input and I played around with it until i found the right combination
Black - must be grounded
Red - puts it in reverse
White - puts it in forward
