We’re excited to let you know that FIRST has been offered the opportunity to nominate applicants for a camp hosted by Apple this summer. Details (and the application) are on our Alumni site (http://www.firstinspires.org/alumni), but here are some core nuggets:


2016 Apple Engineering Technology Camp in CA from July 11 – Aug 5
Ultimately, Apple will admit 24 students
All travel/accommodation expenses paid
Open to current high school Sophomores (10) and Juniors (11)
To let us know you’re interested in being nominated, please complete our application to be considered
Application period for FIRST nominations closes at 11:59pm EST on January 4th
We’ve been asked to nominate students to apply (so, your application to us doesn’t guarantee admittance, nor does our nomination of you – there are a few hurdles before a student is accepted and Apple will make the final call as to who’s in)

You know what I always say… apply, apply, apply!

I know you're joking. But a lot of people still truly polarize around one or the other and I think that in this day and age this is short-sighted.

Bottom line, it's a really good idea to know how to work with both (and Linux too). They're both great platforms, one is no longer clearly better than the other. I've used both, preferred one over the other, switched camps multiple times over the years. I currently own the one - a Retina MacBook Pro which has both OS X and Windows installed - and my next purchase will be the other, possibly a Dell XPS 13 or a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book. I'm not "switching", I want to keep using both.

Macs aren't as perfect and "it just works" as they once were, and PCs aren't as crashy and virus-ridden as they once were.

I'd actually be ok with suffering through high school again if it meant going to this.

A student on our team actually built this computer and started this company. He's currently a Junior and will probably be our driver this year. Our shop teacher (and head coach) is upgrading the school's PC lab by getting 30 L4607's. It's a pretty cool situation.

I only vaguely recall seeing something about this on CD. But I can't find anywhere on the website about fundraising. Are the profits from this company helping an FRC team?

Yeah some of the profits do go to our team!
