Is it me or did you remove the post count from the profile?

Or, I could be imagining things, and just am not seeing the post count for some reason.....

I removed the post count from the profile.

It was gone for a while, due to abuse.
It came back, thinking people could behave.
Now its gone again.

you can still search for post counts, and the custom title thing still seems to be working, so you must still be keeping track. i guess it's for if we act good again, and no one cares about how many posts they have?

yah i like it better without the post count actually

*but* i would also like it more if everyone got to have their own title thingy after like 10 posts or something. some people try to post a lot of junk so they don't have to have "junior member" anymore.

maybe brandon could make it so people who really do post good stuff and help out others can have the special titles, while everyone who spams doesn't get them? i know this may not work, but i've seen it done on other forums, and there was usually less spam from people who wanted to be 'special', once they realized that spam would just push the special title away even more. i think it would be rather easy to implement, because all you would need is a seperate group that has special titles. does make more work for brandon though :/.

Post count is always nice to know. Or at least daily posts...

Maybe eventually it would be a good thing to have the Junior Member title. Anywhooo, there are a couple things I'd like to say about another feature of the forums, the smilies. First, if you highlight them in a post they will sort of show a different looking face. I'm not sure how it would look on lower resolution settings but give it a try. Also, it would be nice to have it when you are writing your post if when you click the smilie it puts it right where your cursor is and not at the end of message. Just a thought to make things a little more convenient. Also, maybe have all the same smilies for Message Icon and message smilies. I would also like to have a Curious smilie too. smilie:)

we still do have the ability to change our title....or maybe i just earned it before they took away the count, i dunno. how were people abusing it?

Don't think this can be done with JavaScript.

When you highlight the smilies with your cursor they look a little different. It works best on Smile, Wink, and Confused. :) ;)

Anyway.....

actually, that's broswer dependent. i'm using Opera (Whoo! :D) and i can't even highlight the smilies. if i go back to IE, i can, but i don't like IE.

for me it was at post # 148 see you can still tell how many posts a person has by going to the search for all posts by this user and it will come up 1-25 of __ posts or something like that

go to your private messages section

these numbers are closely related to the number, but not the exact number used when determining when a user can change their post. There is another behind-the-scenes number that controls it. The count, control, and behavior of this number is not documented. :)

you must have written some special code to have the number vary, because i looked all through the vbulletin web site and the admin demo, and never found anything beside a standard number.

ps: the admin demo was pretty interesting to see all the "power" you have:)

Any hints on the way that number is computed?

Brandon Martus

150+X

X is a random number [1-20], which is added 0 or more times to 150.

I subtract some random number every time i have to do some sort of moderation on a user's post, or if I see deliberate rule breaking, etc.

This probably wont happen as much once vBulletin 3.0 comes out, it has its own little Karma system, so alot of the cool features can be accessable to those that have a good karma rating. [which is determined by how others like your posts on the forums, and other factors, i believe]

Brandon,

How Do You Do It?

when do you think v Bulletin 3.0 will be incorporated to CD

Once they release it, I'll probably test it out, add the Who-Am-I picture, and mess around with it for a week or so, and hopefully they'll release a few more betas. Then maybe we'll install it here and see how it goes.

I have no idea when they'll release it.

They already have a beta version up to play with, but the code hasn't been released yet. The demo beta is a good indication that they're getting close, however.
