There is a question out of my team about whether or not to have a spy, you must also have a spybot, and vice versa. Does anyone have clear evidence to indicate if this is true or not?

You don't need a spy bot. And I don't see any reason why the second human player shouldn't be a spy. There isn't much else they can do.

So then, just to clarify, we can have a spy without a spy bot and we can have a spy bot without a spy. Yes?

You can have a spy (human player) without a spy bot.

Yeah the spybot currently does not seem entirely useful as of now but as strategies develop and people realize the pros and cons I believe it may become an interesting tool. My team and I are still a little unclear on the exact rules and regulations of choosing to spy but we aren't looking at it as a very viable option anyway.

Yea my team is having a similar discussion as to the usefulness of having a spybot and what advantages it would yield.

It can actually be very useful. While the name "spy bot" is stupid. It can be used as a way to score a goal during autonomus (because all bots can start with one ball on any side). (10 points high goal, 5 points low goal which is much more than teleop scoring). Or the bot can be used to quickly come hold open a drawbridge or gate at the beginning of a teleop so that robots can cross without having to scale the rock wall or etc.

One use could be to feed boulders to an offensive, shooter-only bot that started in the spy position. Te bot could also hold open the group C defense if need be.

Remember you cant push boulders over the defenses, you actually have to pick it up and have control of it (max one at a time), before you can take it to the other side, or it will be a foul.

Take a good look at G40 again. Particularly the blue box, first section, B paragraph.
You can push them over, but you have to be in control of them all the way through and finish crossing yourself.
