As per G12:
The following actions are prohibited with regards to interaction with ARENA elements (items A-E
exclude any DEFENSE, RUNGS, and BOULDERS)
A. Grabbing
B. Grasping
C. Attaching to (including the use of hook-and-loop tape against the FIELD carpet)
D. Grappling
E. Hanging
F. Becoming entangled
G. Damaging

Thus, could a robot lift up an entire defense and move it into the neutral zone, thus nullifying the ability to damage a defense, since you have to move from the neutral zone into the outer work, and then the courtyard?

I would consider this action "damaging," violating rule G11-G

In addition to the damaging aspect...

How would you pick up and move a defense without grabbing or grasping it, or any of the other prohibited verbs? Just curious.

From G12:

Yup. You're right.

My mistake.

Defeating a defense means to traverse between the shields from neutral zone to courtyard. If you want to make it easier for your attackers I suppose you could do that.

Seems legit although somehow I think you would get disabled for impeding game play.

Oh, I'm sure the Ref or FTA would be telling me to disable the robot.

I encourage someone to try it though because I want to see the robot that can be built within the game rules that would be able to lift a 60 pound defense 3 inches and then back up with it.

Impeding game play (G25) results in a YELLOW CARD for the entire ALLIANCE. However, the actions that are listed there don't include FIELD damage (which I would consider this).

This might be considered unsafe robot operation (G1), or G12-G (damaging FIELD elements). This sounds like a good Q&A, since it's not exactly clear (though I do believe that it's likely against the intent of the GDC)
