Stronghold is one of the most unique games to come out of FRC in years. Watch GameSense TONIGHT to get a glimpse inside the process, and hear our thoughts on the new game!
Join GameSense for episode 1 of season 3 TONIGHT at 9-10 PM ET as we talk about the new game on the block, Stronghold!
This week, we are once again joined by Frank Merrick, the Director of FRC. The FIRST community has been anticipating this years game ever since the trailer was premiered on GameSense back in October. With the game released, and teams deep into the build season, Frank and the GameSense crew are going to discuss how the game was created, why FRC made this game so different from previous years, and our guesses for the strategies to beat when events start in just over a month (AGHH!!).
We will be doing Q & A through out the show so be sure to ask us anything through our chat bot, GameSenseBot, or by leaving a post here on Chief Delphi, and we might pick your question to discuss live on air.
We're all super excited to be bringing the behind the scenes of Stronghold to everyone in FRC, so be sure to watch TONIGHT at 9 PM ET at frcgamesense.com (frcgamesense.com) or twitch.tv/FRCGameSense!

Frank has sent us some exciting pictures and details that will be on tonight's show. The process behind developing Stronghold seems very different than in previous years.
See you tonight!

What was the GDC's reasoning in the 1 boulder at a time rule?

What was the GDC's reasoning in the 1 boulder at a time rule?
The game is supposed to be challenging. They could have allowed us to carry more than 1 boulder but they probably also would have increased the strength of the tower to compensate.

What was the GDC's reasoning in the 1 boulder at a time rule?
Well most seige machines, could only be loaded with one boulder at a time if I'm not mistaken.

Just wanted to let everyone know that tonight will also be the on-air premier of the newest member of GameSense, Ruth Toomey!
Ruth's been involved with FRC since 2006. Ruth has been a member of teams 1735, 319 and 190 and has been doing a lot of volunteering in the New England area for the past few years. We're all really looking forward to her first show!

Were there any other defenses considered? What were they?

Whats up with Q&A 612??
This will definitely be on the big screen in the shop during our build meeting tonight.
See if Frank will speculate on how the GDC anticipates this game will play out. Do they anticipate strengthening the tower defense for Championship?
Where and how did Disney influence the game this year? Is there a Disney member on the GDC?
How about what aspect of this year's game keeps Frank awake at night?
Another question: If Frank was the mentor of an FRC team, what would they be focused on right now?
Finally, thank Frank for the openness and transparency coming from FIRST, especially in FRC.
Kudos to Frank and GameSense, really looking forward to this evenings broadcast

Whats up with Q&A 612??
I'd love it if they talked about this (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=142195) tonight. We spent money and time building our rock wall out of metal as well as designing to the original spec. Pretty disappointing to backtrack now. But I don't want to derail this thread with that topic...
Love GameSense and I look forward to another great season watching you guys!

Whats up with Q&A 612??
Also if the current decision is kept will there be a blog post about it? (i'm hoping the answer is yes.)

I'm really excited for this episode. Frank visited us at Mayhem in Merrimack back in June while our friends from FIRST were testing out one of the scoring systems. When he was there, I had the opportunity to sit near him and see how he acts when nobody is looking (not in an interview, scripted video, or in a blog post) and my estimation is that he is truly a great person that absolutely loves FRC.
Frank intently watched every match. That's not easy to do at a small off-season event hosting more Recycle Rush. We know he isn't affiliated with any team, but he was celebrating with the teams that successfully scored stacks and showed dismay at any failed stacks. He wasn't there for work, at least he didn't seem to be. It seemed like he was there because some of the FIRST engineers were doing some work there and he decided to stop in and hang out.
I've always wanted to share this story, but just couldn't seem to find the right time to share it... I wanted everyone to know what I experienced. It's not something everyone gets to see.
Anyway, I'm also excited for this episode because Stronghold seems to one of the most well-received games ever released and I'd love to hear more about it.

I'd like to see the details of Medieval Mayhem if GameSense can track them down as a follow up guest!

I can echo this statement. I got to talk to Frank in between MCing matches at Mayhem and he was nothing but enthusiastic about the whole day (about a very small offseason). It was also cool since his son (I think it was his son...) was on one of the team's there so he really wanted to see them do well. He was a great mix between a fan and a volunteer.

Here are the concept photos of "Medieval Mayhem" seen on the show last night:

The details are likely now intellectual property of FIRST, if not of 1189.

Aren't the last two pictures from FIRST and actually initial concepts for the game they created?

If 1189 is not covered by NDA and willing to talk it would be cool to get a short segment or mini pitch for Medieval Mayhem from them. They must have been so psyched when the game came out!
