Mrs T's are ok but if you compare Mrs. T's to homeade pierogie it is like comparing a cheap cut of meat to a fillet mingon(?)

Pierogies are best boiled then fried twice and served with a sour cream and chives dip and a cheddar sauce. Bowling alleys have the best pierogies anywhere, but never eat with your ball hand.

"never eat with your ball hand"

I'm not sure but it's not English, German, French, Spanish, or one of 100s of other languages I checked.

Ok, I've found them. They're "crescent-shaped, tender dumplings filled with a variety of fillings" or, in English instead of Polish, Ravioli. Also known as kreplach.

Coming from a polish family, perogi's rock. I've never exactly had "crusty" ones that were mentioned, but my grandma makes these delicious ones filled with apples. Just pour some sugar on them and add yogurt, and they're one of my favorite foods. =)

Go Poland, and our... er... Go Poland!

Hehe.. they sell them in bags frozen at the store by my house. So great, they take like 15 min. Awesome lazy dinner. oh and when you grate cheese and put it on top.. oh yum, way awesome!

I love pierogies (as well as almost any kind of food), but I have only Mrs. T's pierogies. I will have to ask my Mom if we can make them one day. I am surprised that this is something my family never made them before. Maybe if is something we never made because we never saw it get made on the Food Network. :D

Mmmm... I love perogies! I've only had them boiled with garlic salt and butter though... usually filled with mashed potatoes and cheese/onion/bacon - something like that! Those apple filled ones sound good though! :D

OOOO YEAH!!

Boil them and then toss them in a deep fryer for 5 minutes...thats the best way to have them

There is a Pennsylvania Dutch (in Bethlehem Pennsylvania) place near my grandparents house that makes them....wow those are the best ever. I cant remember what they are called, but they are really good

They're yummy! Best served boiled and then smothered in browned butter and a little grated onion. Yes, pity the poor, undercultured, undernourished who haven't had them. Check out kitchenlink.com if you wand a recipe.

So awesome a kid on our team and his cousin(who also happens to be our one machinist) own a Polish deli and several times a year they bring in boxes of pierogies. OHHHH YEEEEAAAHHHH. We keep wanting to put pierogie powered on the side of our robot, but they just won't go for it.
By the way I like them to.

P.S The pierogie lovin machinist crack was in no way meant as a dis I believe they actually make him stronger.

I just Found my families recipe for pierogies and will post it soon

edit*
Ingredients for dough

6 cups of flour ¼ tsp salt
2 heaping tablespoons of Sour Cream 2 cups of water - ad as you need it

Pinch baking powder

Sift flour. Add egg, sour cream, and water. Keep mixing until firm, not soft. Roll out about ¼ of the dough at a time.

We use a pasta queen pasta machine for rolling a piece of dough into the circle that should have a diameter of about 3 inches. Or use a large cookie cutter.

Ingredients for potato and cheese mixture

6 large potatoes cooked, mashed and mixed with a half pound of cheddar cheese.

Or you could fill with whatever you want

Then fill the pierogies with a heaping spoonful of filling and fold over to a half moon shape.

Put in boiling water until they float to the surface

Then fry in melted butter and onions or serve with melted butter and onions on top.

DJ isn't lying this time. (Suprising, no?) The place in Bethlehem he refers to has pierogies that exceed even a bowling alley's goodness. It's got a lotta signs, can't miss it.

BTW, the "never eat with your ball hand" phrase is about the hand you release the ball with.

Pierogies do come in all varieties -- breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, and desserts can be comprised fully or complemented by pierogies. They might even be better than cheezecake, and possibly are the world's PERFECT FOOD. :D :D :D
