What's in your CD player right now?
Poll is the type of music, list the album, unless you have like a 200 CD changer like some of my friends, and then I don't have time to read that stuff....

Me, I have multiple CD players:

Car: Incubus (CD with mp3s or every single Incubus song)

Computer: Red Hot Chili Peppers --> "By The Way"

Stereo: That One Guy --> "Songs in the Key of Beotch"

And the last one, I swear is real!

One more thing, there's a reason I didn't list country...

right now i have a mix of like almost all my cds in my cd player which include linkin park, system of a down, papa roach, etc.

why didnt you list country?

AdamT
10-08-2002, 22:45
Because country is way too broad of a category to put in there...even in compairison to "Electronica." Most people consider everything from slide guitar to bluegrass to southern rock to modern "country" (Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, etc) to be in the category of "Country"...

as for my oppinion of it, it's my opinion, but....

don't dis the bluegrass!!

Hmm...

I've been on a Tool kick, lately, so I burned a cd of Opiate, Undertow, Aenema, Lateralus and Salival. If you ask anyone who frequents TigerBolt, you can be assured that I've been practically obsessed with them.

I love having a cd/mp3 player...

Where's post-grunge and reggae/ska? :)

Uh...cd's that I can't find (usually means it's in a cdplayer somewhere):

Greenday.
Jimmies Chicken Shack.
Mephiskapheles (sp?).
Me First and the Gimme Gimme's.
Offspring.
Guster.
DMB.
Beatles.
Pinmonkey.

Hehe...a five disc cd changer and a 3 disc dvd player. 3 discmans. 2 car stereos. 3 stereos. 1 stereo with 5d changer. 2 drives on the computer. and lots and lots of bootlegged cds :)

bah, i just have MP3s. i have my MP3/cd player (the RioVolt one), and a nice four speaker stereo in my room. of course, i'm that much of a nerd to have hooked my computer up to the stereo, so i play my MP3's on my stereo, instead of just cheap computer speakers :D.

as to what's playing now, well, it seems to be Dispatch - Bullet Holes. i have a bunch of stuff on my playlist though, and it's set to random, so i get most of my stuff. it seems to mostly be punk/rock/some heavy metal. that's about it though, i think.

Heh...I have a ghetto mp3 player. Anyone else remember paying 300 bucks for a Rio PMP300? Now I could get an IPod :)

My cd collection rules. They're all burnt from mp3s (with the exception of some DMB and Offspring cds). Rather than writing the name on the cd, I wrote a number on the cd then wrote the disc info on a peice of paper and keep it with my cd's. I will be in a bit of a hole if i lose that peice of paper. :)

In my cd player right now?
Return to Castle Wolfenstien. :D
Winamp is what I use.Playlist here (http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/5147ff13/bc/Misc/Playlist8-11-02.htm?bcCRsV9AtPND8Pgo)
Got the Logitech Z-560 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=2&CONTENTID=5044&countryid=19&languageid=1) , so no crappy computer speakers for me. I still plan on getting the Klipsch 5.1 speakers (http://www.klipsch.com/index.asp?path=/products/productdetail.asp?frame=y&id=398&line=&1) tho.

In my car, my stereo reads MP3's. One problem it has tho makes it worthless for driving about town. It takes 2 minutes to read a cd of mp3's before playing them. So it is good for longtrips, but for around town, regular cd's. Right now it is Daft Punk - Discovery.
My stereo in my room, I have not a clue. Its been that long since I have used it.

Easier to keep them on my computer, or the few songs that I do like, then to constantly swich cds.

Yup, I have close to 200 burned CD's since November of 2001. Plus about 200 unburned songs on my PC. I have a HUGE CD carousel (201) attached to my TV/PS/VCR/sound system that is full of almost all bought CD's. Bah, buying CD's made me poor too fast. I have everything from bluegrass to modern country to oler country including my very close family member Duane Eddy. My collection extends through CCR and the aerosmith days up to current DMB, Creed, and yes I enjoyed Hanson (it deffinately beat the boy bands of that time, Hanson's music was not all popish). I also have in my collection classical such as Mozart, because I study music, and even to the extent of Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock. If it's not techno or rap, then I have it.

Dude, every single song that has ever been put into a digital format. The only thing by them I don't have is an old 45 single they put out a long time ago called "Lets talk about some rootbeer ya'll" So my answer, EVERYTHING!!!!!!! I am little obsessive, but it's ok to be obsessive sometimes...

The reason why there's not every category I could think of is because you can only have 10 options for the poll....

Plus, I wasn't sure we'd have many hardcore/metal fans...

DanL

As for whats in my cd player (ACDC), I don't really listen to cd's that much. I just turn on my winamp playlist... on there I have everything from ACDC, Aerosmith, Zepplin, Hendrix, and Black Sabbath to "Stand By Me" and "Play That Funky Music Whiteboy" to B52's, Billy Idol, Whitesnake, Queen, and Steppenwolf to AFI, Catch 22, Face to Face, Alkaline Trio, the Ataris, the Bouncing Souls, Unwritten Law, and Pennywise to U2, Goo Goo Dolls, and Third Eye Blind. Heck, I've even got Incubus, P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Primus on here. The other day I cracked up when I realized my playlist went from Metallica to "Stand By Me" (the origional, mind you!) to Catch22 and I didn't even notice. The only thing I'm really missing on my playlist is classical (but I've still got some), rap (excluding Tupac's Changes - one of the few rap songs I feel actually say something important), hip-hop, and tennie-bopper pop. The way I see it, music is there for entertainment and more. If you limit yourself to only one variety or only one genre, you're missing out on so much music.

But out of curiosity, where would you guys classify Dave Matthews Band? Not on this poll, but in general? I'd say pop would be the easiest, but (excluding their one pop-song, I Did It) DMB as a whole doesn't fall into pop (download "#36 (http://24.186.144.31:81/DMB_-_Red_Rocks_-_%2336.mp3)" (18 megs, awesome percussion intro) or "Ants Marching (http://24.186.144.31:81/DMB_-_Red_Rocks_-_Ants_Marching.mp3)" - both of these are AWESOME live recordings from the Red Rocks concert) and you'll see right away that their style is not pop. It's kinda rock, but not really.

Anyways, the same question applies to other psuedo-cult bands. Do bands like Dispatch, Cake, Phish, Widespread Panic - do they have a particular genre, or would you just put them under the generic "Alternative" label?

evulish
12-08-2002, 15:48
DMB falls into more of an alternative genre I'd think.

Man do I miss my old computer...around 20,000 mp3s. *sigh*

Rob Ribaudo
12-08-2002, 17:11
My computer- nothing (I don't really listen to music much, but any I do are mp3 in my winamp)
Brother's Computer- same as my computer for same reason.
the 5 disk CD player in the Den of my house- No Doubt: Tragic Kingdom, Aaron Carter: Oh Aaron, Backstreet Boys: Millemium, Linkin Park: [Hybrid Theory], and a CD with various anime theme songs that my brother burned
Mom's Car- A book on CD for long car rides. (Not sure what book.)
Dad's Car- Not sure
Brothers Car- nothing, but he has a laptop with 100's of mp3's on it to listen to.

No, I meant is there anything more specific? "Alternative" is not only generic, but as Adam pointed out with country, it's just a very broad category.

Has anyone hear Troy Stetina play his metal version of Beethoven's 23rd Sonata? It is SO FREAKIN AWESOME!! Classical music played in a metal style sounds so cool. I want someone to play Paganini's 16th Caprice on electric guitar. That would be amazing.

cdnow.com lists DMB's related genre's as:

ˇ Pop
ˇ Rock
ˇ American Traditional Rock
ˇ Singalong
ˇ Soft Rock

Singalong? Uhh...

I don't think I'd call it pop...

DanL
13-08-2002, 04:24
singalong...? lol... I'd rather just list them and similar bands in my own little made-up unique category, which after careful thought, I think I now will.

In my 5-cd changer that I have in my room:
Stabbing Westward - Darkest Days
Social Distortion - White Light, White Heat, White Trash
Oleander - February Son
U2 - Achtung Baby
Natalie Imbruglia - White Lilies Island

I just took out:
Bad Religion - The Process of Belief
&
Face to Face - Ignorance is Bliss

In my portable cd player:
Stabbing Westward - Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel

But I usually find myself listening to and watching the 420 (and growing) music videos I have on my computer. 17.7GB

On the PC here, it's almost exclusively MP3's. I am too lazy to trek into my room to find CD's. Never mind that, several years ago, I *lost* most all of my CD's.

My playlist (http://www.magenet.com/~imagination/playlist81302.htm) is depressingly short right now. I'm recovering from formatting my hard drive about a month ago, and I haven't taken all of my MP3's off of CD's yet.

(Yes, I really love Me First, and I really love cover songs)

In my car's head unit, there's a CD with the abovementioned 200+ songs burned to it. It does well for long car trips.

In the trunk, there's;
1 - Twister: The Original Motion Picture Score
2 - No Doubt: Tragic Kingdom
3 - Aerosmith: Just Push Play
4 - Aerosmith: Big Ones
5 - Green Day: International Superhits
6 - Gorillaz: Gorillaz
7 - Billy Joel: Greatest Hits 1
8 - Billy Joel: Greatest Hits 2

This week, I think I'm going to change out Twister for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Maybe Tragic Kingdom for Return of Saturn, too.

In my DVD player, there's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The soundtrack, that is. The movie is with the rest of my DVD's.

Some metal-core CD, with remixes of Maniac, and Sunday Bloody Sunday, and an Offspring song, and Every Rose Has It's Thorn as well as some others... I "borrowed" it for the night cause one of the girls on the team left it in my lappy CD player today while we were at the robotics meeting!

I couldn't even tell you who the artist is.
The artist's name is Evergreen Terrace just in case anyone was interested.

NOFX - The War On Errorism

Well, I have punk in my CD player, and I usually do. However I think this poll is messed up. I refer back to the punk selection: "Punk (real punk not that Blink-182 crap)" I assume you mean punk like the Misfits. However Blink-182 is punk, they're from a genre commonly known today as "Pop-Punk." One of the very first punk bands to emerge ever were The Ramones, and no one can disagree that they were very much punk. However they were also the first band to be classified as Bubblegum Punk or Pop-Punk, and so Blink-182 isn't very much different from the Ramones. And by the way Green Day is considered to be Punk, or ever Pop-Punk by some. Billie Joe Armstrong even has "PUNK" tattoed on his knuckles. So, I think maybe you should do a little more research, and type out polls in a much more general manner before you post. It would probably have been much better to not give an example of any bands or musicians. Also there are so many music genres, it's hard to make a good poll with less then 20 choices. I don't see "Country", "Rockabilly" or "Emo" any where on the poll. I think I'll listen to some pop-punk now that this CD has just ended.

-EDIT- I do however see the category for "Other" so I'm sorry about that part however I still stand behind the rest of what I said.

Millemium is a good CD. And It's good to know that I'm not the only BSB fan here.

I've got ~102 songs on a data CD (really fun to :D), mainly HIM, Linkin Park, and Kid Rock [ \m/ \m/ ]

(Edit):

On my comp. I have "September Day" by Peroxwhygen (http://www.peroxwhygen.com)

It's an excellent 9/11 tribute in my opinion.

If that "group" on your avatar is indeed "True Talent", then I am afraid the world is in more need of help than I previously thought.

And yes, I called them a group - Artists who deserve to be called Bands actually play instruments on stage.
(Hence there are really no bubble gum pop bands, or rap bands)

I actually bought this album by mistake. I wanted the second song "Go' to use in animation (this was during my first year on the team and I was unaware that you could not use copyrighted music) but I wanted the much more intense Rainforest Mix.

computer - Brand New (Deja Entendu) + mp3s of bands like Midtown, Get Up Kids, Fenix TX, Offspring, Donnas

portable - probably some punk band, since it's always changing

stereo - either Reel Big Fish (yay ska! :-D), Weezer, or Sugarcult/Blink-182 (and yes, I'm in agreement w/Jonathan M. in the explanation of punk, with the different kinds, e.g. pop-punk, emo-punk, ska-punk)

Dont know if anyone has heard of it but VNV Nation. They make really good music. I especially like their music because even though it is techno it still has lyrics but they are not as harsh as most are these days.

Brand New - Deja Entendu
Story Of The Year - Page Avenue
Fall Out Boy - Take This To Your Grave
Yellowcard - Underdog EP (the good old stuff, not the new crappy MTV album)
Motion City Soundtrack - I Am The Movie

Then again, I havent used a CD player in about 8 months, so these are the mp3 albums i have been listening to alot lately. The Brand New CD is kinda slow, but some of the songs are addicting (Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis)

BTW - I saw Story of the Year and Motion City Soundtrack in concert in Hartford last night, it was amazing. :)
