We also source our cord from McMaster as the lead times are nice and short. As to the easiest cord to use, it all depends on how exactly you want to use the cord.

This is the most popular orange belting for intakes that most teams use.

The linked video shows some good tips for joining the belt except DON'T use a flame to heat the urethane. Apart from the general hazard of fire (and that you can't use a flame at competition) BURNING URETHANE PRODUCES TOXIC FUMES.

Simple solution: USE A HEAT GUN instead. Shield areas you don't want to heat with a piece of aluminium. Careful, that will get hot too.

What is the practical difference between the hollow core and solid core belts? Are solid core more commonly used? Do the hollow core deform more easily or do they have a tenancy to "flatten"?

The hollow core has the advantage or disadvantage of a mechanical joining system. It hard to push the barb into the tube & you have to be careful not to damage the hose barbs. The solid ones have to be welded. We have always used the hollow ones.
