Hello all,

How many points will your robot score? Its a question that gets posted, answered, and exaggerated every single year. Every year, we on CD are dramattically off from the truth. Usually teams overexaggerate their own performance and so before Week 1 we are convinced we will see huge match scores.

I posted this poll week one with most people predicting scores from 30-80 points. I'm interested what this week will reveal.

Truthfully it depends on your team strategy.

If you are a defense specialist who can handle a boulder and score low. I would say that you are looking at 30-50 points.

A team who can cross the defenses but instead wants to shoot high goals the whole match is dependent on the other alliance also scoring boulders or trying to not get penalties by getting boulders from the opponents secret passage. I'd say low level teams who do this strategy are looking at 25-60 points.

A mix of the 2 and your solo points will be lower as your alliance will theoretically breach the defenses more evenly distributed across the 3 robots.

Down at team 254 we're trying to be graciously professional and help other teams but no one is at our level, it's just been too easy.

Interesting typo?

Interesting typo?

Obvious troll is obvious. They say they're on a team in California but list their location as Canada. Their other posts are similarly entertaining.

Hmm I wonder... Nah.
It is interesting to note this year that you could be an assist bot score virtually no points but still cause a team to win. I actually hate to say it but depending upon team composition we could be scoring a bunch of points with no ranking, or few points with ranking. Ill run some numbers.

Their listed team number is 2154 so I was literally asking if it was a typo.

As a team who breaches and makes high goals (only) we hope to be able to score 82 points during a match by ourselves

My prediction is that the answers given here will be much closer to the distribution of alliances' scores than individual robots' scores.

Isn't 100 points a robot scoring like 20 high goals a match, or say 1 shot every 8 seconds?

100 is definetely a lot but I can see some teams pulling it off.

20 points in auto from going over a barrier and shooting
70 points in teleop from barrier/high goal cycles (About 20 seconds a cycle, 7 in total)
15 point scale
Total: 105 points

Very hard but very possible. I suspect there will be plenty of teams that could do it in certain matches but their average will be a tad lower.

Of course, I voted based on expectations. We expect to be able to breach the defenses (8 crossings) solo if necessary, and put up several boulders in the high goal along the way, then climb on the batter to challenge.

My prediction for high scoring match (net of fouls) at Champs is 270 points. It's remarkably similar to the projections for the last 3 years.

Considering the "soft max" for this year is 220, a mixture of 5-10 boulders doesn't sound that far off.
