We got 3 new ones and they all have those kind of marks

Wow that's weird, I haven't encountered a boulder like that. It kinda looks like that area was smoothed by melting or something and excess coating due to a smooth, flawless coating rippled at the edge there. But I have seen that a lot in regular dodgeballs, it might have been that batch or one of the machines was slightly off.

Our kit boulder has a similar patch roughly half the size of this.

Our kit boulder has two patches each a quarter the size of this. I thought they came from intake testing, though.

I just checked, and we have an unused one that looks like this too.

These amazing $35 boulders leave a lot to be desired.

My guess is that they are lazy when they make them (and quite frankly I wouldn't imagine anyone would care about a 100% perfect dodgeball, although we do :P) and that this is the area that is sitting on the table when they coat them, so it doesn't get the finish that the rest of them get.

All of our balls have patches like this of varying size (from almost unnoticeable to as large as in this photo).

I remember patches like that from middle school dodge ball.

My bet based on examining the hole in the coating is that hole is there because the ball was stuck on a stick, like a lollipop during, the coating process. My other guess is that the texture of the coating is a product of the texture of the ball under the coating.

Both the ball in our KoP and the one we got in first choice have a similar smooth spot (albeit in different positions).

"Sire, Sire, we have a problem! The peasants have been digging boulders in the quarry for the upcoming battle. They are not the same!?! They are not all perfectly round and there are rough patches and smooth patches. What will we do? "

Ahh modern problems!!!

Our boulders have this as well. Luckily the patches don't seem to make much of a difference in our wheeled shooter.

I just checked a few moments ago, and none of my team's boulders have this mark.
