Hi,

We have just received the new VEXpro VersaPlanetary Integrated Encoder, and we were trying to read data values from it. Since it can only connect to the new Talons and not to the actual roboRIO, we were wondering how can we connect to it.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

You'll need an encoder breakout board. http://www.vexrobotics.com/217-4398.html

And/or connect directly to a Talon SRX that you're controlling through CAN. Then you can read it off the Talon. If you're not already using Talon SRXs through CAN, then go with the breakout board.

OK, We do have this board, but what do we do in the LabVIEW code?

Hi, electrical team leader from 1389. We are using 12 Talon SRX's and a lot of versaplanetary gear boxes. Would you like me to talk to the lead programmer and ask him what he did to program them? We are not using the encoder breakout board, the Talon's and encoders are connected directly to each other.

When you hook up the breakout board to DIO, it should function as a normal quadrature encoder.

Hey, I'd love to see a bit of code, thanks :)

same here... we are using the cable ribbon from the encoder to the talon SRX connected through the RIO via CAN... but have no idea on the coding... any help to get us started would be very much appreciated... is there an app on laptop we can use to "see" the encoder value?
Thanks a bunch

Did you try the manufacturer's website [it's labeled on the product :) ]?
