Versa Encoder with Talon SRX over CAN

Rookie team here...

Looking to leverage the Talon SRX CAN with encoders on our Versa Planetary Gearbox.

We have the cable ribbon connected on the encoder and the Talon SRX 10 pins input.

Our current code had encoder build in DIO on Roborio, how do we switch from DIO input to Talon SRX CAN data?

Any lead to get us started would be appreciated... could not find much on the web.
