We're confused about the 11:59 p.m. deadline. Must the bag and tag process be completed by 11:59 p.m., or the actual work/building the robot stops at 11:59 p.m., allowing bag and tag to occur after midnight? Rules are ambiguous.

Section 5.1 of the Admin Manual states:
"You may work on your robot until midnight local time on Stop Build Day."

R15 of the Game Manual states:
"All ROBOT elements ... must be bagged and sealed, by 11:59PM local time on Stop Build Day."

Welcome to ChiefDelphi! I would highly encourage you to have your robot bagged and tagged by 11:59PM tonight, if you don't, you'll run into issues at your first event. Be sure to also have an adult sign off on your bag and tag form stating that you did so. Make sure to keep the form in a safe place, as you'll need it when you load-in to your event(s)!

I posed a valid question requesting legitimate insight. We're a rookie team. And I'm not a guy.

I think its a fair question too.

Hey! Welcome to CD!

Yes, make sure your bag is sealed by 11:59pm tonight (local). Technically, you can still work on parts of your robot up to that point as well -- just make sure you factor in the bag time (which, by posting this, you already have).

Lets reference what you posted

Section 5.1 of the Admin Manual states:
"You may work on your robot until midnight local time on Stop Build Day."

- Alright so do not work on the robot after 11:59

R15 of the Game Manual states:
"All ROBOT elements ... must be bagged and sealed, by 11:59PM local time on Stop Build Day."

- Alright so make sure the robot is in the bag by midnight.

Why would one rule negate the other? Its very clear that the robot needs to be in the bag and work needs to be stopped at 11:59. I did not notice you were a rookie team however, there was very little ambiguity in this and it simply looked as yet another person trying to find a hole in the manual.

It is ambiguous, unless you plan on bagging the robot in the minute between 11:59 p.m and 12:00 a.m. Perhaps you can accomplish that, but we're not there yet. I do not wish to engage with someone who seems more interested in arguing than helping. Others provided the answer we needed.

J,
You can bag your robot any time before 11:59 (even yesterday if you were finished). That is your "drop dead", "must stop" time. You may also bag any fabricated items you do not want to include in your withholding allowance. Items that are in an additional sealed bag are the same as the robot. Each bag must have a seal and be recorded on your Bag & Tag form. You do not have to bag bumpers. They are excluded from B&T rules and the withholding allowance.

A lot of little weird inconsistencies in this years rules, I'm glad this one is a minute of time and not a field measurement though.

Also note that a recent update (12) specifies that you may use two bags for your robot for convenience. Both must still be bagged by 11:59pm tonight.
Edit: If you do this, use two tags and two lines on the lockup form.

J,
You can ask anything, anytime. If you are uncomfortable posting your question in public, you can use the Private Message feature to contact me. However, we all know the stress rookies go through. You are not asking questions that have not been asked many times already.

Al, I appreciate that; thank you. We ended up getting the robot in the bag at 11:30 p.m.--plenty of time to spare! It was still good to have the rule clarification in case we did bump up against the deadline.

Is it 11:59 PM all around the world?
does it mean that Australian teams for example have less time to work?

Its 11:59 PM local time. From what I hear Australian teams do have less time to work since kickoff is the same time worldwide.

That is 11:59 PM local time. So yes some teams have more time than others.

I believe Hawaii teams have THE most time to work on robots.:)
But then again, you dont have to wake up at 2:30am to go to your kickoff site.

I am totally in the same boat of ask for help! Feel free to message me for less official things because AL totally has his game on point in this area and I'm not like an expert at rules. Always down to help though!
It is rather strange to see this response from a question on Chief Delphi. Nobody should be uncomfortable with asking questions, and creating an environment where we can all learn together is a sign of a truly healthy community. If we don't encourage growth. The community will die. Thats all there is to it.
