Why is there a University of Wisconsin W on your robot? Just curious. Other than that looks like a great bot. Very concise.

Heh - funny story that. We stole it from our high-school's athletics department who borrowed it from the University. We found out after we had the plate made a few years ago. Now, its just fun.

What size wheels are those? Also great looking robot!

What is that around the wheels? Duct tape? We have similar 12 in pneumatic wheels and when we turn with tank drive, the voltage is drained quickly due to the resistance of the wheels dragging. We have tied zip ties all the way around the wheel and that seems to work. Looks great and good luck in competition.

Hmm -

I hadn't thought of that. We're actually using an interesting pipe-repair tape that's slicker than duct tape on one side and extremely sticky on the other. Thanks for the suggestion :-)

Daniel, I hope I'm misreading this:
.. we had the plate made a few years ago.

Your robot includes a part fabricated before 9 Jan 2016?

Looks great like this, but do you have a pic with bumpers in place?

Can you get both manipulators under the low bar?

Can you carry a boulder through the portcullis (if yes to the preceding, looks doable)?

Section 1 -

The W was etched on a piece of metal a number of years ago by a trophy house for demo stuff. We cut the metal down further for use on the robot. We have another two or three made without the W just in case of that question :-)

We are not able to go under the low bar with the current configuration. We should be able to carry a boulder underneath the portcullis since the compression of the pick-up mechanism is made to hold a ball pretty tightly until we're ready to load and shoot. I'll let you know for sure once we get the practice-bot up and running (some last minute design decisions on the competition robot).

We don't have a pic with bumpers in place - it was a choice of taking the time to do that or to let it run around a bit for some testing. We'll be posting a pic of the practice bot with the bumpers (and hopefully a video) in the next week or so.

You guys are now my favorite team in the South solely because of the W. Robot looks solid, too.

On Wisconsin.
