Just wanted to announce that Rectify's Tinker Tie Beta, an RGB LED bow tie electronics kit, is now available! After a successful Kickstarter campaign, we are finally able to sell kits directly to teams and students. We conceived this project as a great way to give students hands-on and tangible experience with electronics and microcontroller programming. A large portion of all the proceeds from sales will go directly to Rectify!

You can check them out here. (http://atomcomputer.us/store/tinker-tie-kit)

Thanks!

Thanks! It took us a while to refine it down to something you'd actually want to wear.

What kind of battery is that running on?

Looks like a small lithium ion soft pack, 3.7v around 1000-800mah. These are lipo so please take caution. They will burn you quite nicely if they vent due to a short or overcurrent.

Not exactly something I want to hear about something I'd put around my neck...still though, sounds like a cool project.

The batteries we use are 500 mAh LiPoly batteries with circuit protection (to protect the battery in the event of a short). They are commonly used for wearable electronics purposes. At about half brightness, we've found they can power a Tinker Tie for up to 20 hours of continuous use.

I also forgot to mention, we've entered our project on Hackaday.io for their 2016 Hackaday Prize. If anyone would like to follow or like our project here (https://hackaday.io/project/10321-tinker-tie-beta-rgb-led-bow-tie) it would help us out a lot!
