View Full Version : Undefeated Regional Winners Concurrently
I know that 2056, OP Robotics, is undefeated for every Regional event they have went to, but are there any other teams excluding this years rookies who are undefeated at each event they have gone to since creation of their team?
If anyone has any idea, that'd be swell because I have been searching but have not found much.

Oops I put concurrently instead of continually. My bad, it's late.

As Karthik said at GTR-East, "It's one of the most impressive streaks in robotics, if not all of sports". I probably misquoted, but that's the gist of it. What OP has done for the last 10 years is unbelievable, truly remarkable, and unmatchable. Winning a regional is a very difficult thing to do. The playoffs are often times a crapshoot. Robots break, partners' robots break, you get drafted by a bad alliance captain, bad scouting leads to a super alliance forming that is too much to overcome, etc. OP has overcome it all to win 23 consecutive regionals. In my mind it's the greatest streak in any sport at any level. Right up there with UConn's women's basketball team winning 90 consecutive games, and Cal Ripken's 2632 consecutive games played at one of the most brutal positions in sports. Now OP just needs to get that chip!

Nobody.
There are actually multiple teams that, as of this posting, satisfy GDB's criteria.
5601 is currently undefeated at regional events, having won the Australia Regional last year. They have a chance to continue their streak at the Hawaii Regional this year.
5528 is currently undefeated at regional events, having won the FRC Robotic Festival of Montreal last year. This year they are competing again at Montreal.
Good luck to both teams as they attempt to continue their streaks this season!

While no other teams have kept an extended (absolute) regional win streak, there are a few teams right now who have impressive win streaks of their own.
254 has won their past 8 regionals, including one so far this year.
118 has won their past 11 regionals, including one so far this year.
254 also had a 5 regional win streak when they first started, winning all of their regionals in 1999, 2000, and 2001.

I believe 2590 has won Hatboro-Horsham each year for the past 4 or 5 years.
1983 has won every regional/District Championship since 2013, and won every district event played since 2015.

1983 has won every regional (regional and District championships only in this case) since 2013, and won every district event played since 2015.
Small correction, we did not win the 2014 Spokane district event. It was our first event that year.

I split the district events away from DCMP/Regionals, I thought i made it clear, ill edit it to make it more so.

359 has won their past 8 regionals, including two this year. They have a 19 regional win/finalist streak, covering all their 2010-2016 regionals.

I don't call one event streaks a streak.

If you want to get nit picky, since the championship is an event there is no team that fulfills the criteria. Otherwise those two teams do fit the question.
I don't call one event streaks a streak.
OP's post didn't say anything about a "streak," just asked about undefeated teams. If a team were 1-0, I'd certainly call them a team that's won all of their events since creation.
I don't call one event streaks a streak.
Understandable. But... those are the only teams I could find that fit all of the criteria. Kind of shows how much 2056 is in a league of their own.
One thing about this kind of perfect streak is that you have to start strong. Tindleroot's post shows that other teams currently have long streaks, but the fact of the matter is that having lost regionals, 254 and 118 can never achieve what 2056 has right now. This is all because 2056 won all of their regionals in their first couple years of existence! Really difficult to do.
As tindleroot said earlier, 254 also went 5 events (3 years) undefeated before losing a regional.
Couple more shoutouts:
1574 started out undefeated in regionals for 4 years, from 2005-2008, before losing the Israel Regional in 2009.
3990 started out undefeated in regionals for 2 years, from 2012-2013, before losing the 2014 New York Tech Valley Regional in a close set of final matches.
And the "please don't flame me for thinking this counts" award goes to 2604, who is undefeated in regional competitions since they started in 2008!!!! :D :D ;)
They won the 2008 West Michigan Regional, then Michigan switched to Districts.......
But really, if you don't count the World Championship, then why count district events or district championships? They're clearly not regionals either...

We (TechFire 225) today made it four years in a row that we've won the Springside-Chestnut Hill MAR District Event. :D

1678 had the quarter final curse for 6 years in a row when we started. Every year make it onto an alliance, lose in the quarter finals each time.
Finally broke it in 2011 and have been steadily picking up steam since. Last year we managed to pull off a Fibonacci sequence of wins/banners.
2011: 1 banner
2012: 1 banner
2013: 2 banners
2014: 3 banners
2015: 5 banners(TBA doesn't count WFFA)
2016: 8 banners????
To pull off the sequence this year we need to win our next 2 events, get Chairmans at one of them, win our division, win champs again, win Championship Chairmans, and get a WFFA and count it this time >_>
My hopes are not high for 8 banners this season. I can dream though.

We (along with all teams) have won 0 of our last 0 events, which is 100%. Go teams!
I'd like to add, you can put "undefeated district event winners". Sorry I didn't mention that, but still I do not think there is anyone who compares much to OP Robotics in that case or we would all know about it.

They've only ever lost one SVR, as I recall, and that was '07. 1999-2006, 2008-2015. (And there's a chance at the 2016 one going onto that streak, too.)
1999-2000 had a different name for SVR; that's the NASA Ames Regional you see on their FIRST info page.

We (along with all teams) have won 0 of our last 0 events, which is 100%. Go teams!
You're also winning 973% of your regionals by that logic.
Top answer (https://www.quora.com/Is-the-answer-to-zero-divided-by-zero-infinity) puts in fairly well
(There's no actual consensus though)

Team 2052 had a 2 year win streak at the Lake Superior Regional, 10,000 lakes Regional, and the MN state championship during 2013-2014.. With some luck last year during 2015 It could of been a 3 year streak for all 3 since we came 2nd all at all 3 events during 2015..

Team 2052 has a quarter-final curse at every division we attend at champs. Ever since 2013 (which was our first year at champs) we've been trying to get past Quarters at champs in our division but we end up getting knocked out barely every time. Hoping to break the curse this year though.. :D
Team 180 SPAM won the first 4 South Florida Regionals; sadly, they didnt win last year or it would be 5.

It was actually 2013. That's when we were alliance captains and choose 2054 and you guys. We were in the same division in 2014 though.
0 of our last 0 events, which is 100%
(0/0) * 100 = 100%? I want to see the proof, there must be some pretty creative use of the squeeze theorem :p

Ah. 2013 was a year before my time and I was a total screw-off freshman year so I guess I got my stories mixed up :yikes:

lim x->c of x/x equals one. Because x/x in this particular case also equals 0/0, you can then just squeeze the two additional zeros between the one and the percentage sign.

2590 is also maintaining a regional streak (not counting region/district championships). They haven't lost a traditional regional since 2011.

It's easy, we compete in 7 regional events, win both champs, and get a Chairman's award, and a WFFA.
What is this sleep you speak of?

Can't compete in 7 regionals (unless maybe Israel since it was at a different time from other regionals?), but you could get a WFA at both champs.
Hopefully California goes to districts by 2018 for the 21-banner season:D
