I love to see that this event is happening again!
The biggest piece of advice to anyone planning on attending, if you have a spare part for anything on your robot, bring it. If you don't, get one. Although last time was Aerial Assault Assist, driving your robot an additional 26 matches (requiring some not as experienced drivers for midnight hours, mentors driving, and whatever else they decide to throw in to make this event even cooler) will inevitably cause things to break that you never expected. some of which may not have broken throughout your standard competition season.

This is an incredible, unique event...the silent match, the Mentors match, the "lights out" match--so much fun!
Our students from 3193 are really looking forward to competing here again, and I'm glad I could talk 48 into coming down as well.

Can we get an updated registered team list?
I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm curious who's signed up. Is there anywhere I could find a registration list?
Do you guys know what you will do instead of the portcullis at WVROX? Will it be rebuilt, always CDF, or something else?
Jimmy Nichols

I just received an email that my payment was received and it was mentioned that the portcullis would be a flat defense.
I'll have our event organizer post an update here today (I hope). Yes, we will probably do a flat plat for the portcullis or just leave the CDF in all the time. We are going to work on the rule changes and other details this weekend so we can post a complete set of info for teams as well as an updated list of confirmed/paid teams.

I mailed our payment in a while back and have not received any word on receipt. I would like someone involved in event planning to fast track an update.
We have posted the an update to the WVRoX website that includes the event rules, a draft schedule, and some basic logistical information. ( http://www.marsfirst.org/wvrox-2016/) and we will continue to update that document over the summer. The event is on the WVU campus in Morgantown West Virginia, at the student recreation center. So far we have had 22 teams register and submit payment. Here's the list of teams that have registered and paid:
48 Delphi ELITE Warren, OH
456 Siege Robotics Vicksburg, MS
888 Robotiators Glenelg, MD
1038 Lakota Robotics Cincinnati, OH
1071 Team Max Wolcott, CT
1126 SparX Webster, NY
1257 Parallel Universe Scotch Plains, NJ
1708 Amp'd Robotics McKeesPort, PA
2614 MARS Morgantown, WV
2656 Quasiacs Monroeville, PA
3193 Falco Tech Austintown, OH
3260 SHARP Pittsburgh, PA
3492 PARTs Winfield, WV
3504 Girls of Steel Pittsburgh, PA
3511 Road Dogs Scranton, PA
3844 Kentucky Wildbots Corbin, KY
4265 Secret City Wildbots Oak Ridge, TN
4467 Titanium Titans Pittsburgh, PA
4505 McDonogh Eagle Robotics Owings Mill, MD
4954 4H Palindrome Robotics Middletown, DE
5418 Sonic Screwdrivers Hubbard, OH
9999 Girls of Steel - China China
We have tried, so far unsuccessfully, to increase the number of teams beyond 24. Our main sponsor really wants to keep the total number of teams at 24. We will continue to try to expand the size of the event. However, for now we have two spots remaining. 9 additional teams have registered but not yet paid. We will take the next 2 teams that pay the registration fee.
We will put all other teams on a wait list as some teams may need to drop out at a later date. If we can increase the size of the event, we will. But for now, we are assuming we will be at 24 teams.

Rule updates per the 5/16/16 update
Regular FIRST Stronghold rules unless otherwise noted below
Contact for interfering with a robot crossing a defense is still a penalty, but no safe zones for shooting. A robot having completely crossed a defense and preparing to shoot can be defended.
Repetitive high speed bashing of a robot by another will be called as a tech foul. This is an endurance event and it is already going to be hard on the machines. Blocking, defending etc. are acceptable, but a pinned robot cannot be beat upon by another machine – tech foul.
8 balls to bring down a tower in qualification matches, 10 balls in elimination rounds.
Every two cycles of qualification matches (every eight matches), a defense will be selected at random to be swapped with its alternate version. Every cycle in between (again on an eight match rotation), two defenses will be chosen at random to be swapped. There will be no portcullis, so the low bar and the cheval de fries will stay out for every match.
Backup robots are legal for play, but must have color coded, numbered, bumpers and meet basic inspection and weight regulations ( < 125 lbs), i.e., teams are encouraged to bring at least a basic drive base with appropriate bumpers for when their primary robot needs repair.

So who's ready for the special matches!?
There will be 5 special match cycles, and teams should expect 35 qualification matches. i.e. these happen in series of matches, so every team plays one of each of these specialty matches. And yes, they count for ranking
Lights out match: Lights will be dimmed. 3 human players allowed in spy position with intense flashlights to illuminate balls
or defenses. Back coaches will inbound balls
Mentor/parent drive team: The drive team and the human player must consist of coaches, mentors, etc. The back coach
must be a student team member
Silent Match: No music, no drive team talking, no game announcer. Only hand signal communication allowed.
Insane Balls Match: All defenses removed except the low bars. Crossing a defense position scored as normal. Shooting
permitted from all zones. All balls must be reentered into the field as soon as they exit the tower. 12 extra balls
placed on the field. Human players may attempt to score from the feeder position.
Bid the tower strength: Each alliance submits a secret ballot for tower strength of the opposing alliance. The two bids are
then averaged together and the tower capture level set to that number.
Thank you MARS and WVU for making this an awesome event. To all the teams it was great competing with you, and thanks to all the Volunteers. It was awesome and we can't wait until 2 years from now. I am now going to sleep.
Thanks go out to all the teams who made WVRoX such a success. We completed 108 qualification matches (27 per team) along with a full elimination round in just under 26 hours. Teams lent each other entire robots so that machines and drivers could keep competing - a wonderful display of Gracious Professionalism. The crews from AndyMark and FIRST were awesome and our volunteer emcees and game announcers did a fabulous job as well. On behalf of MARS, it was a honor to have you in our "house!"

This was a great tournament--hats off to WVU and MARS for all of the hard work that went into putting on this event. I know every member of our team had a blast, though the bus ride home was more about catching up on sleep than sharing stories (and thanks to the Sonic Screwdrivers 5418 for sharing their bus!). The next 2 years is going to crawl until we can do this again!
Congratulations to the winning alliance...teams 456 and 2614 had robots that just performed consistently well the entire tournament, all the way to the end.
Thank you to 1629 for picking us to their #2 alliance...It was a blast to play with you. Thanks also to our other alliance partner 1071 for all of your efforts. All I can say is sorry for our intake motor dying there in the Semi-finals. I guess 34 matches in 24 hours was its limit :o.
Also congrats to the hard work that our NEOFRA friends put in--teams 48 and 5418. And congrats to 5418 for making it to the finals! Having you all there to share the experience made it even more amazing!
Here's hoping that once everyone gets a little sleep, you all can come to our home in Austintown, OH on Sunday, Sept. 25 for our one-day tournament: MVRC. See you there!

Team 456 wishes to express our sincere thank you to West Virginia University, MARS 2614, and everyone involved in putting on WVRoX 2016. Once again this was a WORLD-CLASS event and if you weren’t there you missed out! The whole event couldn’t have run any more smoothly and I dare anyone to find more FIRST fun packed in 26 hours anywhere!
Team 456 also wishes to express our sincere thank you to Team 2614 and Team 3492 for being such powerful alliance partners during eliminations. Team 2614 really took the brunt of the heavy defense being played which took the heat off us and 3492 was doing and amazing job playing defense for us! The double hang in the finals was so cool, too! Team 456 has been around a pretty long time now and believe it or not this was our first winning blue banner ever! It meant so much to our team and we are proud to have won it at WVRoX and with 2614 and 3492! We can’t wait for WVRoX 2018!
