I didn't see a post about this, but something happened at Central Illinois for, as far as I can tell, the second time ever-- a team walked out of a regional with three blue banners.

As far as I can tell, the only other team to have accomplished this feat is Team 2283, Panteras, at the Mexico City Regional last year. It's possible that a team has pulled this off before they started handing out blue banners for WFFA, but I haven't checked that far back.

Anyways, congratulations to 2220 on the accomplishment-- that's a very small club, and it makes this alumnus very proud.

Also, if you know any pre-2015 occurrences of this, feel free to post them-- this is a very cool accomplishment, even if you don't consider WFFA to be a "real" blue banner.

1114 in 2008 won all three at the Waterloo Regional.

The "Triple Play" is a rare feat... but it has happened from time to time. I want to say 217 pulled one of them off about 10 seasons ago, but I'm not entirely sure.

48 accomplished the feat at Pittsburgh in 2012. More recently, 1108 accomplished it at Crossroads in 2014

1985 did it at the 2012 St. Louis Regional. I call this a Trifecta.

Back then there were no blue banners for WFFA. Just that awesome Möbius Bearing Trophy.

604 pulled off a WFFA, RCA, and Regional Winner at the 2010 Sacramento Regional. :-)

And as far as I know, 67 was the first team to ever walk away from an event with 3 physical blue banners, winning Championship Chairman's, Division and Championship Winner at the 2005 Championship.

It's virtually impossible to do this in Michigan anymore, where even if you ignore the difficulty of winning and earning the CA at a state level, you've got dozens of fantastic, WFFA-worthy mentors passed over each year because only one can be selected (out of over 400 teams this season).

Anyhow, I guess that makes three: the two this year and 67 in 2005.

I know that there is a blue banner for Chairman's and for winning the event, but what is the third?

Woodie Flowers Award.

It seems that TBA doesn't count WFFA as a blue banner. 2220 is recorded as having two blue banners on the insights page but still has all three awards.

111 pulled it off back to back at Midwest in 2005 and 2006, winning the regional and Chairman's both years and having Big Al Skierkiewicz and Dan Green selected as WFFA winners. (Al in 2005, Dan in 2006)

Does Volunteer of the Year earn a blue banner now? I recall a very nice trophy, but no banner.

Actually 525 won the regional, won chairman's but Ken Swartley (their mentor) won volunteer of the year not WFFA. He actually won Woodie Flowers at the 10,000 Lakes Regional in 2011.

No. Which makes sense as some volunteers of the year aren't associated with a team. And the stated reason (woodie flowers blue banner) to add a banner for Woodie Flowers Finalists to earn a banner is to recognize the connection with the team and it is something for the team to be proud of. (paraphrasing)

And yes, a team should be proud if one of their mentors wins Volunteer of the Year. But it is more being proud of someone you know because it is about activities that occur outside of the team. Just like the other mentors and student team members were excited for me when my books came out. It's really cool, but not a team thing.

Two blue banners for Team 525 at the Iowa Regional. The WFFA winner at the Iowa Regional is Richard Hurban from Team 5837, Unity4Tech in Waterloo, IA. We will always think of Dick as a Swartdog even though he won the award as a mentor for Unity4Tech. Dick started as a mentor for Team 525 when his daughters were on the team and his FIRST involvement grew into mentoring multiple FTC teams and now the FRC team in Waterloo over the past few years. A well deserved honor for Dick's commitment to the students of Waterloo.

Long day, my apologies.

Kenton, thanks for the kind words and years of service to 525 and FIRST. I would not have received WFFA without role models like you, and Bruce and Jan Newendorp.
Unity4Tech and Swartdogs invite everyone to "Meet us in St. Louis at the World Championship" in just over a week!

I think your a bit confused.

The thread is talking about banners. Winning the event, chairman's, and WFFA gets you a banner.

329 won 2 DLF awards, engineering inspiration, Finalists, and the gp award this year.

So they actually walked away from both events without a single banner.

Still an impressive run.

My team, 3506, walked away with three blue banners this year at the North Carolina State Championship. Making it our fifth banner this year. This is an incredible feat and congrats to all the team that have been able to do this so far.
