Wow... over 200 replies and over 4000 views, yet this thread still has no rating. heh. Anyway,
How many girls out there enjoy the theater/acting/anything related to the legitimate stage? I'm a techie for that too, master of lighting (NSI rocks) and sound (1500 watts in a relatively small auditorium heh heh heh), and enjoy working on productions just as much as viewing a good production.

I am quite aware of this, I'm not illiterate, and the only two girlfriends I've had were both thespians, one a writer/artist, and one an artist/actress =P As far as the latter goes, I'm not sure what the male obsession with that sort of thing is, nor why that's the first thing that comes to the mind of most guys when any word which sounds like it is spoken/read. I'll never understand my own gender. Anyway, I don't think that sort of discussion is appropriate for this thread.
Back on topic,
I prefer the thespian type myself, particularly actresses and musicians, although artists always hold a special place in my heart.

Well, there is still no one that is interested in a single white female (wow that is a country song) that is a robotics nerd. If there is anyone from the Ohio area please contact me!! Or if you are going to the buckeye regional or canada............I'll be there for both!!
I'd be interested, but I'm from CT, and as such am quite a ways away, and won't be at either regional. :(

Um...I have dated 2 people on my team...
One i don't ever want to be around again...but luckily he is graduated...
The other...him and I are becoming friends again, it just took us a while to do...
Reasons not to:
- if you break up, tension is created *remembers nats last year*
- it could distract you from getting your work done...
- fights usually end up involving everyone there in that build session...
Reasons to:
- you and the person have the same geeky interests
- you get to spend quality time together without ever worrying about what you are gonna do...
- theres more i just cant think now...
Its up to you...
Currently...I wouldn't date people on my team...but that's for other reasons...

I guess I would date someone on my team, but the only problem is, i've befriended all of the females on my team and would never want anything to do with any of them ( in a relationship sence ) but I can see how wanting to date someone with the same interests is a defiante bonus.

b/c it is their nature...
or at least that is how ricky explained it to me...
As a guy I can only speak for myself through observation of what can be considered the "typical" American guy stereotype (Abercrombie sweatshirts, jeans, jock, etc)
Guys are extremely emotionally sensitive, moreso than women, despite what behavior or reactions may dictate. They need to feel they belong to something, a close friendship, romantic relationship, or some form of team (sports, robotics, etc). They find serenity of the mind in numbers. They feel they are at their best when demonstrating a certain skill or talent in conjunction with others, proving their "worth" to each other. When it comes to women though, they sometimes feel their "worth" or friendships are threatened, when the need arises to devote a majority of attention to a certain individual, of the opposite sex in most but not all cases. This upsets the balance in the mind of the guy, and results in erratic behavior, unlike himself, which is usually the opposite of what the woman desires. It's all in the subconscious, so he's completely unaware of anything that happens, and is unable to control it, unless he happens to be an extremely strong willed character.
All of this comes from theory, formulized by 7 years of watching people of my gender forge and destroy relationships with friends, girls, family, etc. so I have no idea what's fact, fiction, or both. Anyone care to share their thoughts?

Whoa. A lot of thought was put into this...
Psychology make brain hurt.
My take on the whole thing is that guys and girls are about as emotional, but girls are more subtle with signals. Also, guys dealing with girls can be bad straits, especially when the girls in an area have set up a psychic network of sorts. In other words, say something to a girl and half the female population will know it in an hour. This does not make for good conditions to ask a girl out if you're timid.

[COLOR=teal]Wow......Marc put alot of thought into what he had to say, but I dunno if everything is true. Girls have a shy timid side as well. There are some girls that can't walk up to a jock and say hi in the hall and there are some jocks that have their heads all up on the cheerleaders/majorettes grill. I'm not sure that high school guys have everything straight and I'm not sure that girls do either. I'm an 18 year old female and a senior in high school, but I'm not sure that guys ever truely feel like they are secure where they are at. I mean guys compete everyday over the stupiest things and they will continue to do that the rest of their lives. I dunno.........I'm not good with words and maybe there are some girls out there that can put into words what we go through with guys!! I'll try and maybe post on here later tonight.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. During high school I wouldn't consider myself "popular." But I was friends with a lot of these people considered jocks. Sure they may have put sports over school and may not have been that smart but not all of them are jerks. Hey, sometimes people just focus on what they're good at. Time to put stereotypes aside because there are a lot of jerks in every group. I mean how many "geeks" do you know who are annoyingly pompous about their intelligence. Also time to put insecurties aside because you may never know who you're missing out on.
Oh..and as for Marc P's post...wow, very insightful and true, at least from my experience.
Another observation- Socially I believe guys (again, of the stereotypical abercrombie all American brand) are more exclusive than girls, e.g. a certain social group/clique of guys is far less likely to associate with any other group, or individual which is considered "uncool" or "stupid" by that group. Females tend to be more open and will associate, within considered reason, with virutually anyone, particularly if emotional distress is evident. Example- nerdish guy is dumped by his girlfriend and is curled up in a ball in the corner of the hallway crying. Social group of guys walks by making jokes about him, laughing, and moving along. Group of girls walks by, and if not in practice, statistically they are more likely to stop and talk to him to find out what the problem is. Again, this is speaking generally from observation, and I'd appreciate anyone who can share their thoughts/insight/experience.

I just saw an add for a special on The Learning Channel, that is supposed to be a two part special on the differences between guys and girls. I think it sounds interesting and I will be sure to watch it!! Guys feel the need to compete that makes them feel special, but you ahve to figure that girls compete as well. I mean make-up, clothing, how high skirts are and how low tops go, I mean guys competing is the same as a girl flirting?!? Just my added cents!!

Alrighty then.......thanks for that bit of information !!!
It's true that both guys and girls compete, but they do so in differant ways- e.g. a guy is competing to prove his own worth as a guy, via fighting, "toughness" or ability to do something. Girls who compete via makeup, high skirts/low shirts are usually competing for a guy's attention, or rather, the attention of guys in general. *shrugs* either way, it's still competition, and competition in general can lead to rather unpleasant situations in some cases.
purpledaisy
18-12-2002, 12:59
Also, I think guys get more comfortable in their social status. Basically, they'll compete, but once they've been beaten (socially) a few times, they tend to accept it. girls don't. We always are trying to change things, and are often VERY ruthless. Have you ever seen girls fight? they use hands, feet, teeth, nails, everything. it's REALLY messy. when guys fight it tends to be fist fighting ~ it can get nasty, but you don't usually end up with clumps of hair on the ground.
I'm not a psychology person, just putting in what I've seen.

Guys cannot understand girls because her brain is simply too complex for his sweet little boy brain. All the subtleties of the way girls communicate with each other; guys will never fully be able to follow them. Nothin wrong with that; they just weren't made to understand all that.
Girls on the other hand cannot understand guys because she expects his brain to be as complex as her own. When he talks to her in monosyllables, she wants to believe that there really is some deeper meaning, when really, his brain just doesn't operate on that level. It's ok, little girls and boys, your brains are just wired differently. Guys are just simple minded ;).

I don't think individually either gender is more "simple minded" than the other, but enter social circumstance, girls are generally more intelligent than guys (e.g. grades, studying, school work in general), and often communicate better verbally, rather than "i'll kick your bottom."

I am, if I'm there...
If ladies don't understand us guys, they're thinking too hard. The cool thing about it is we are all the same. We have this short little list of needs and wants, and if you meet those, we're in love. Ask a guy what's good...."WOMAN!" Ask him what's better..."TWO WOMAN!!!" Ask him what's better than that..."FIVE WOMAN!!!!! "
~Just My Two Cents.~
I beg to differ =P
Virtually every move in my life is based upon instinctual logic... with the exception of FIRST.. That was just random.
What's good? Happiness.
What's better? AMD Athlon XP 2800+
What's better than that? AMD Athlon64
(Computer processors are the ultimate form of logic, since quite literally that's all they are, pure unadulterated logic)

well, based on a conversation I had last night around let's say 12:30 AM while falling asleep, I can safly say that girls think way too much into things. I mean I took what came out of someones mouth and totaly turned it around into something that I wanted to hear. I think as a female who thinks with emotions sometimes more then logic when dealing with the opposite sex that I get caught up in how I feel and how I want the other person to feel. I sometimes lose the true meaning of what the other person is telling me, causing more problems then I normally realize. I don't think that guys are more simple minded then girls are I think girls take more things to heart and over analyze things more, causing the heart-ache all girls have once felt in their lives. I think that as girls we must listen to what guys are saying and not listen and add things to what they are saying. I mean bluntness may not be such a great idea, but hey it couldn't hurt as well!! Just my added $0.02 .......

Has everyone lose track of what this whole thread is about. Finding a computer nerd that is just as nerdy if not worse then you. Guys and girls cannot be compared, nor should they ever be compared. We are to different in actions, emotions, and instincts. Why must the "MALES" always say we are bigger and better and why is it the girl always gets her heart broken when what she thinks the love of her life doesn't't love her back. It's called reality and we all live in it.Nothing will change what hundreds of years has done to us and I don't expect it to. I live for today and dream about tomorrow. Besides everyone should be using their brains to think of new and creative ideas for this years game......WOW!!
Shelley- you state:
"Why must the "MALES" always say we are bigger and better and why is it the girl always gets her heart broken when what she thinks the love of her life doesn't't love her back. "
Yet in my personal experience I found the opposite true.. in my case it was the girl who broke my heart by deciding she didn't love me back, after a wonderful relationship which lasted nearly a year. Guys and Girls are/can be similar in some ways, and in the same way, vastly differant in other ways. Guys will always compare themselves to girls, girls will always compare themselves to guys. My basic thought is this- Guys are differant from guys, guys are differant from girls, girls are differant from girls, girls are differant from guys. Everyone is an individual and needs not bind themselves to the stereotypes of one gender, race, religion, or any other socialogical norm. There are plenty of girls who behave "like guys" and plenty of guys who behave "like girls." I realize as long as society demands perfection, fences will always be built attempting to clearly define the typical "acceptable" behavior patterns for guys and girls. I can only look forward to the day when perfection can be overlooked in favor of more "usefull" attributes.

Marc...... Your post has some truly good merit in it as far as people being who they are and acting whatever way they see fit. Like you I have been in the situation of a year long commitment and he all of a sudden decided that he wasn't in love with me anymore. That is where I stereotyped that from. I'm sorry that I didn't mention that it goes both ways. I guess I take to heart the "love" word and the feelings that go along with that word. I was majorly hurt and I built some major walls around myself, so as for my life right now I speak my mind and how my heart feels......shattered!! I can see where you are coming from and I think that people in general need to stop being like Hitler in WW2 and stop trying to weed out the not brainie people. I mean someone needs to make my dinner at Micky D's....... just my added two cent, I hope it clears up where I am coming from.
Of course, it's understandable, again, I know the heartache well, but the only thing you can do is pick up the pieces and save them for someone who cares enough to try and put them back together. If that never happens, at least you still have the pieces, just remember- no matter how twisted or shattered they are, they will always constitute a whole heart once the right person finds you.

I've built the walls so far up that it would take a giant to knock them down. I still have a heart and I still care about people and things, but right now (almost 2 years after the break-up) I can't keep a guy in my life and I surly can't open myself up to anyone guy/girl. So I guess once your heart gets shattered once you have to sit and realize what it was you had and then try to find that again. What if however you don't want to find that again. I don't know if there is someone else out there for me and I'm not sure I wanna look. Then nunnery is looking real nice lately.

What a thread. Bear your emotional soul on the fishing line (what a lure indeed) and hope for a nibble. I guess I'll sit on the dock and watch my bobber too...
I'm 17, male, and I'm on team 180. You might see me walking around (when they have the unfortunate chance of capturing me on videotape) wearing a purple, yellow and green jester's hat... Even more distinguishable is me juggling with a few of my budz from 180 and other random teams. I'm about 5'11 to 6' (haven't checked in a while), I've got a sort of hockey-player build, and I'm terribly gothic (97 degree weather with a trench-coat on type of goth....). Brown hair and eyes and a (supposedly) great sense of humor (is oodles laughter while I'm around a bad thing?). That's right. I actually used "oodles" in a sentence... Not much else, I guess. PM me if you want to talk, or if you want to know anything else..

I'm known to have a good time with just about anyone I talk to or hang out with. You can always find me dancing at competitions.. no matter where we are. And I don't like to admit to it, but I'm rather ticklish everywhere (I added that for you ben).
I'm really into the blue eyes..... and guys taller than me, I'm 5' 10" and I have really long legs, brown hair and eyes...

I'm pretty sure I've already posted in this thread at least a few times, but whatever.
17, Taurus.
I'm pathetic. I have no life, other than robotics (well, kinda). I'm interested in almost anything technical. I can do practically anything on the team. I'm a general geek, though I guess I lean towards electronics, programming, and computers.
I used to read a lot, and still do occasionally, though I'd really like to read more often. I like all kinds of music, except stuff I don't like.
Blah blah blah. Insert more personal information here.
If you want to get to know me more, I suggest you either hang out in Tigerbolt, or IM me, or something, although there're no guaruntees about my being present. Contact info in sig. Whatever.

Hey everyone. I'm Hue (pronounced "way") and am on team 812. It is my mission to find a girl or a friend of the female gender for my team president to meet at the Southern California Regional. He is 16 years old and is extremely dedicated to robotics. He lives for it, pretty much. He plays the guitar and is a good student in school. He has a romantic outlook on life and is looking for some fun or maybe more. He is a funny guy sometimes, and is a good listener and friend. If you're interested, let me know. You can im on AIM at greenzgurl15 and I'll give you more details if you'd like.

anywayz, im Mike and im from team 71, obviously. i am a junior at hammond high school. i do some web design and stuff like that on the web. i used to skateboard, but i ditched that and went to snowboarding in the winter and bmx in the summer. i can play the drums, although i make really really bad attempts at playing the guitar. music is seriously my life. i will usually complain about it being too quiet and then blast some rock of some sort.
so, this will be my second year on team hammond. this is really all i do during school, other than science olympiad. i am the biggest nerd you will ever meet. its sad really. my gpa doesnt reflect that though, so i guess you can say im 90% nerd, 10% other.
usually im in the pits working on something. if i am not there, im off eating or wandering around. if ya stop me i will always stick around to talk unless im on a mission for a part or something. at the hotel, i am usually the one goofing off and doing stupid things. im not crazy, im just.........me. lol i think i will be hitting the hot tub a lot this year. :D

:D Is "Kurty" an adjective? Or is that just a synonym for "Squeaky"?
My emotional soul is never on a line as a lure, but always out to float amongst the populace to deliver my take on life, from a personal perspective. Never is it designed to attract a nibble, nor a bite, but to throw out a {hopefully} unique perspective into humanity.
So you float your soul among the populace? Isn't waste-management fishing illegal? (and yeah... that was probably me...)
:yikes:
In most states, yes, but I don't mind- generally speaking, only those who are worth my time would even notice a mind floating amongst the clouds. Everyone else would ignore it as a typical gentle breeze, and go back to their inane banter.
WOW THIS THING IS LONG! can someone summaries whats been going on?
Thanks,
Matt
