Hi, I'm Michael O'Brien, I'm a 15 year old member of 972, I'd like to meet a girl who i'd feel comfortable settling down and having children with in the next six weeks or so. Any takers? If you aren't from around here, don't worry, I give you permission to move. By the way you must either be anorexic or Bullemic and require many years of cooking and cleaning experience.

I admit it's time for me to jump back into the dating fray, but honestly, I'm way too old for this set.
Plus, I have decided to shop for those at least ten years older than myself. That's way off the radar!
Unfortunately, the men in that age range are mostly taken already.
It's going to be a little dry out in my neck of the woods for awhile.
Better to be with an old man who knows everything, than younger one who only thinks he does.

Not necessarily. If there IS going to be this thread this year stick to the point. Last year everybody ended up wandering around like a stream of consciousness instead of like a rational, coherant discussion. Sadly last year the only event that I saw truly come out of this thread was me ending up wearing a kimono. If you are going to try a FIRST classified thread, please I have a couple of requests.
1) keep it respectful to all the people reading the thread, and dont degrade any one person, race or gender.
2)please keep it focused on the point of the thread and not go wandering off to all sides
3)keep your responces succinct, and to the point.
If you guys and gals really want this to work...please all make an effort to GET it to work.

I'm Mel and as I stated before I'm a cancer, 16 years old...
I'm going on to my 3rd year of robotics with a new lathe as my toy *you can't touch it without getting through me first* It's my baby...*does the chuck key dance*
I'm an overachiever in school...
I enjoy the classics very much (classics = latin and greek, fyi)
Currently, I am single...
I enjoy rock climbing, volunteering at local musuems, theatre...
I'm a dork what can I say...
I like dorky boys whom enjoy robotics...(in fact out of all my b/fs i had, only one hasn't been involved in robotics in some form)
According to my friends, i'm sweet, caring, and sexy (?)...

Welcome to my world :(
Anywho, yes, A. Snodgrass is right about the postings, they should be limited to the purpose of the discussion, meaning essentially a short bio of yourself, such as interests, etc. especially pertaining to FIRST, personality traits, and the like. The primary purpose is for people to get a feel for who's out there in the FIRST community, to learn more about each other, and to become better friends (or in some cases, maybe more) at the competitions themselves when we all get together. Any slandering of sorts is not at all welcome, including but not limited to criticism due to lifestyle, beliefs, interests, etc. Aside from that, happy posting, and hopefully we can hook some people up :)
Addendum- about me:
18/m, lacking college plans since I was hired as a full time head computer technician for a local computer store, ACR computer. I built an entire 20 computer lab for my high school from scratch (computers from components, ran and crimped my own cables, installed my own software, etc), am a lighting and sound technician for various theater productions (I enjoy theater quite a bit, particularly when I'm involved from a tech standpoint). My latest production was as sound technician for the show Oliver! I've only had 2 serious girlfriends in my life, neither of which turned out to be "the one" (long story about one, the other left me for another guy more like herself). Don't want to waste any more posting space, so if anyone wants to know more/has any questions send me a personal message.
Kristina
09-10-2002, 22:46
Alright, time for my little bio...
I just turned 18 in june, go geminis! Originally from Minnesota, transplanted to Southern California and I'll be here for at least another 4 years (I go to UCLA, go bruins!) Always the superbusy, overachieving girl in high school and now. Studying poli sci and hopefully will go to law school. I was recruited to robotics to organize/manage/be team mom and bake. I have random obsessions: Australia, Alias, tall guys, coffee but I'm giving up caffeine right now, Law and Order, and of course...PLAID.
PS. For the record, I would like to strike down any rumors that I had personal relations with our team captain :)
Katie Reynolds
10-10-2002, 08:50
Hmm ... OK:
I'm Katie Reynolds.
I'm 17 as of Sept. 16 (Virgos rule) Ok...my semi-serious post...
This will be my third year involved with my team. I'm leading, er - "coordinating" the electrical team this year.
I speak German rather well. English is my favorite school subject.
Other than FIRST, I enjoy reading, writing and sleeping.
When I'm not in school, you can usually find me at home chatting in Tigerbolt and checking CD.
Geeky boys rule - coincidentially, the only guys I've ever seriously dated have been involved in FIRST!
This post was kind of pointless because, as stated before, I am taken - but I figured I would respond anyway. :D

Yeah, can't believe I am actually going to reply, but here goes....
17.5 years old, pisces.......
4th year robotics member, and second year as driver. I have been known as the 'gearbox' girl, and most recently known as 'Moose'.
Most people usually come looking for me at competitions for information. I have read the rule book close to a hundred times, and always carry mine with me. Be afraid, if there is information available on your team, I know it.
I am currently awaiting for admissions letters to come back from Penn State, WPI, and Olin College. I have only heard back from Mansfield University so far.
I have been told that I care way to much about everything I do. I have also been told because of this, I tend to be a very dominate person, and have an attitude problem when I am frustrated or mad.
Outside of Robotics I manage to accomplish few things.
I mentor two lego teams.
I am a 13 year Girl Scout, and recipient of the Silver Award.
I am a volunteer at the Skilled Nursing Unit.
I play marching, concert, and musical pit band. I specialize in flute, piccilo, and piano.
I work at a bed and breakfast.
I am active in my church.
I enjoy the German culture, festivities, language only because of my 'extremely' German family.
I am also a dancer - jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, toe, ballet, and sometimes spanish. I have performed at Lincoln Center in NYC.
I enjoy cycling, and going on trail tours.
anyone who wants to chat, feel free to reply, e-mail me, or message me on MSN (chucknmoose).......
Shouting out to anyone in NEPA, or anyone who has ever even heard of it.
hmmmm, if anyone actually takes this thread serious, a warning, I am tall, and usually fear guys to young or short for me

Hey cheese boy, why arent you tossing the cheddar at him??? You are from wisconsin arent you? :p
Watch what you say, that can be taken many ways, including in some which may be considered offensive. As stated before, this thread is designed for people to describe themselves free of criticism, such that everyone can get to know everyone else a little better. I'm trying to preserve this thread as productive, rather than allowing it to become what it became last year.

<gasp> don't tell me you're talking about brie, i love that stuff. Now camabert, that smells gross and tastes disgusting too! I'm a big cheese fan (even swiss) but has anyone else ever had chedderalla...its a hybrid mix of cheddar and mozzeralla. Yum

I love swiss!!!! This is like lastyears but with cheese instead of kilts.
All may feel free to read my AIM profile- DarkBlackFox. It highlights my likes and dislikes as far as cheese goes...
Also an interestingly amusing thought- if two people met and fell in love as a result of a similar liking for cheese... I can only imagine what would be served at the wedding...
mozzerella forever!!!

My name is Michelle Zimmer and my wonderful boyfriend posted an ad here. I am 16 and do not like cheese. I think he thinks that he can have two women. I do not care for people who eat a lot(esp cheese) If he can have 2 women i get another man. I do not care for b/fs who want 2 g/fs:P and I enjoy reading and having fun on ricky's couch in the chat. One day(today) I hope to go to homecoming with my b/f who is the pinnacle of foolishness and that i love to death. I am a pisces, reply if you would like to make ricky pay and insanely jealous..;P

I vote that we meet now (so I don't have to do my papers) and let's come to California. Wisconsin is known for cheese but California had some great cheese commercials and advertisements....hey, whatever happened to those? I actually liked those commercials.
This whole thing sounds pretty cheesy if you ask me.

Hm, I should probably make an effort to steer the thread back to where it should be going, Classifieds. I'll re-create another thread from last year- "Random" Where inane prattle such as the like can be carried out with no trouble or thread boundaries. In such an efford to save the thread, I am quiet, generally shy, (until FIRST competitions come around), and enjoy good company.

What's all this talk about sports?? The only sport thats worth half a dern is a hardcore robotics competition. It demonstrates the power of the brains behind whoever built the robots, and the reflexes/thinking under pressure of the drivers. That's not to say robot designers aren't in shape... how else would they lift the 130lb beats into the crates, and haul huge pieces of sheet metal from place to place ;)

Hey now....theres a difference between being safe and being stupid...
yes in soccer you have the ground with grass to cushion your fall...in hockey you are on skates and have a sheet of ice below u (plus there is no glass to be shoved into in soccer)

Does anyone else think that meeting people online kinda kills off first impressions? I do...it seems too many people are creating stereotypes about the way people look/dress/act. Not seeing a person but talking to them seems to make it easier to actually meet people. People say guys are shallow by not talking to a girl because they're not pretty or something...but somehow they seem to forget that girls are just as shallow or even moreso. I may not be the hottest guy on the earth...I mean, well, I _am_, but some people don't want to admit it...and I'm not quite normal :) Some people seem to try their hardest to ignore me. I guess I'm glad...since I wouldn't really want to be friends with someone like that. But the internet is good for such meetings :) The internet rules...get the hard first-date out of the way and just chat for a few months and then meet.
Anyways, enough of my rant. :) (Brought to you by the usless and unused department of evulish's brain)

Yep yep. I met my guy online ... didn't see him for the first time until MMR. Then the second time I saw him was at Nationals. Third time was IRI. Fourth time, he came to WI for a week (we started going out shortly after that). Fifth time, he came up for my birthday (which was a complete surprise!!) Then I will be going to Indiana with him to his prom in two weeks. Fun :)
Long distance relationships are hard, but worth it.

i wanna be a dork... can i be one?
anyways, here's the info on me cause i'm bored right now and want to avoid doing work....
my name is sherry, aged 17, from sacramento CA. this is my second year in FIRST. i come from an all girls school, so all skills in talking to guys (if there were any to begin with) have been depleated. but whatever... uhm... i'm easily amused and yet i become bored readily. i'm usually the sideliner person who just watches the maddness reign on the boards, but i'm trying to take a more active role on here now. :) what else? what else? oh! the nickname hacksaw came up because i was the only one who could handle the hacksaw. that and when they were looking for the hacksaw, i (for some reason or another) responded to their call. *shrugs* so the name kinda stuck.
on that note, does anyone want to be my friend? :D

1. i'm on my school's mathletes team
2. i'm taking two sciences this year (AP chem and anatomy & physiology)

I don't know about that. Under certain circumstances lighting a fire is THE most intelligent thing you can do. The trick is being smart enough to know when it is and when it isn't.
Examples:
If you are lost in the snowy woods, a fire is a brilliant idea. Especially if you can make it really smoky.
On the other hand...
If you are lost in the chaparral in Southern California in mid August of a dry year, a fire might make your location a little too obvious. You're sure to get plenty of help, but it will probably be too late, unless you are VERY careful. But if you know how to be that careful, you probably know enough not to get lost in the first place.
The same goes for relationships, there are times when a little fire is appropriate and others when it's not. In the case of you students I'd recommend you finish your educations and establish a reasonably steady income before lighting any relational fires. Otherwise things can get way out of hand before you have time to think about it. Talk about playing with fire...

Yes. I agree. If you don't like a thread, don't continue to read it and don't post in it. If it really offends you though, go to a mod, or report it. I, however, don't see how this particular thread is offensive, in fact, I like it.

I was at work the other night ( I work at a nursing home)
After dinner is done I sing while I clean up. The ceilings are huge so I can't help but sing. One of the Ladies there picks up bits and pieces of what people say. One of the guys sings a song the starts out "Let me call you sweetheart" So i'll sing that and that will trigger something in her head so she knows the rest of the song. When I sing I usually sing "Your Song" so now whenever I sing the line"Let me call you Sweetheart" somehow she'll go into a verse of "Your Song" in the middle of the Sweetheart song. It's pretty cool that she remembers that cause she has a really big tumor and isn't really there most of the time.. :)

I'm a not too ugly thirty one year old without even a date on Halloween, making obnoxious posts on a chat forum. How pathetic is that. It's my own fault though. Should have made better plans. Oh well, maybe next year. On the plus side, the kids look really great in the costumes I made for them. Making the kids happy makes up for a lot of silly self pity eh?

Scrooge has it all wrong. Christmas time is the wrong time to be mean. During Christmas time, you are never forced to do anything, you don't even have to celebrate it. Halloween should be the time he was always pissed off, for the same reasons I expressed above.

halloween was.... interesting for me, to say the least. i went out to go and do my political hours with my friend. yes, i was being political tonight.
it's a funny concept really. we went out to campaign for a candidate, and she had us going around doing "reverse trick or treat." basically we went around to houses and gave out fliers with candy attached to them. we were on the giving end instead of recieving (though i didn't mind if they offered us candy... lol). we were required to wear signs that stated who we were campaigning for, and i swear we got so many strange looks.
when we would go to a house, people would get so confused. we would say "reverse trick or treat," hand them the flier, and they wouldn't be sure if they should give us candy or not. some gave us candy, other stared oddly at us, and a couple laughed.
i only got 3.5 hours out of that though. eh... it was just fun to see people's reactions. i found it amusing... *goes off to rumage through bag of candy*

i think i basically have most people beat. night before halloween was basically a halloween here because underprivlidged kids are bused in and they go trick or treating around our dorms. great idea, i think its awesome....except when i'm trying to study for my two midterms that were on halloween. so yeah, went to poli sci and we were basically expected to answer 9 difficult, intricate questions, a page on each in an hour. i think my hand almost fell off. turned in my test and literally ran with a group of 3-5 people to our next midterm up a steep hill (curse UCLA and their hilly campuses). OMG, that cosmos midterm was definately not fun!

We dressd up in masks and dark clothes, then we sat outside "lifeless"(hehe). We sat the candy out with a note "Sorry, please take one" and scared the kids when they came to take it by "coming to life". :D

My Halloween was actually petty decent this year. I got all dressed up and put make-up on nad went out and trick-or-treated with the lil kids. How about no one believed that I was eighteen and that my parents let me go trick-or-treating by myself. I got a bunch of candy and my dad ended up getting into last night. I went to a friends house and we watched 13 Gohsts!! That movie was awesome and ya'll have all got to see that. Just don't plan on sleeping that night. I couldn't sleep lastnight!! Scared to death!!
