Top 8 robots based on performance, or top 8 ranked robots after quals?

Here are OPR-based predictions (http://frc.divisions.co/division/Curie/rankings) for rankings in the division. Take these with a grain of salt; this year isn't a stellar year for OPR. YMMV.

Personal opinion: 3990 (Tech for Kids) should be highly considered for any list of the top teams in the Curie Division. I was also impressed by the performance that 876 (Thunder Robotics) had at the Central Illinois Regional.

I strongly agree that 3990 will be one of Curie's top teams. At Tech Valley, they were one of the most consistent shooters and climbers. They seeded third and were picked by the #1 seed, 359, and they dominated in elims.

Our first list was focused more on probable ranking points at the end of each match.

The issue with using qualification rank to assess team strength is that strength of schedule and luck with alliance partners can bias results. Just last weekend, 1257 seeded 52nd of 60 teams at MAR CMP. We averaged of five low goals in a match, and maximum of seven, but had bad luck in quals with alliance partners losing comms and such. 225 (who told me their scouting does not consider qualification rank) and 341 picked us for what we could do, and we won the event.

This is exactly my problem with all of the pre-scouting ranks, especially if you use OPR. None of them assess individual robot ability relative to the other teams in the division. Since OPR is based on the performance relative to the individual event, you seeded #1 at a week event then you will have a high OPR if you seeded #13 at MSC yours will be lower. Which of those teams has a better robot? Were events primarily won by low goal bots or was it a high goal shoot out?

My strong recommendation to all the teams looking at the division is to WATCH MATCHES. Make your own determination as to the scoring capacity of each team, and do your ranks that way.

I would prefer to see the list of "best high goal shooters", "best low goal shooters", "best autonomous modes" teams with most consistent hangers, etc.

I know much of these public lists are just time killers waiting on Wednesday, so it doesn't matter much. I would just be hesitant to use any of this for pre-match strategy if you expect good results.

Our first list was focused more on probable ranking points at the end of each match.

Us not showing up on that list makes perfect sense as we only managed to capture and obtain all 4 ranking points in a single one of our 9 matches at the Montreal regional.

We calculated an average of 5.5 low goals

Curie teams, be wary. I knew these guys were our top low goal bot after 25 on Friday night, and I thought we might have a shot at playing with them because people would overvalue shooting and scaling (and I was right). Somebody is going to snatch them up if you don't, and if they play defense again, you'll be on the receiving end. Top-notch play, watch the MAR Champs playoffs.

4329 is looking forward to playing with and against a bunch of teams we've never met before!

Though we didn't have much time for improvements, we've made a few that focus on reducing our cycle times and improving our high goal shot consistency.

We also only weigh 90 pounds, use the kit bot chassis and already use pneumatics. We think we'd be a great robot for cheesecake and are always open to discussing this with teams. We have a hang / defense module of our own as well but it takes away our low bar capability.

Looks like your robot has a nice flat space for an extra climber......I wonder if anyone in Curie is bringing one of those:rolleyes:

Our entire system weighs 15lbs, has successfully been cheesecaked one time after passing inspection this season, and can lift a 160 pound bot. If our alliance partner had made it to the batter during finals in the NC Campbell event I feel it would have worked great for them like it has for us.

Team 4469 https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/4469/2016
Nice consistent High Goal Shooter and knows how to play in elimination rounds.
Part of winning alliance at the Auburn District event and the PNW District Championship

Team 5803 https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/5803/2016
Super Rookie that can breach everything and low goal score and scale.
#1 seed in the PNW District Championship, on winning alliance at Philomath

As our printer couldn't make the trek from California, I've attached out robot information sheet for other teams interested in us to look at. It has our general match strategies, statistics and component lists, and more. Feel free to ask here or stop by our pit if you have any more questions about our team or robot!

Summery: We are a low bar capable robot that can cross Class B and D defenses quickly and efficiently in both teleop and auto, and we can accurately shoot into the low goal 5-6 times per match and/or keep high goal shooters supplied with boulders. We also have a blocker constructed and can play defense. Like I said, if you have any questions ask away!

After landing back in Israel team 3339 would like to thank all of the team for making this event to such a great one!
A special thanks goes to our alliance partners:

Team 694 for believing in us enough for picking us as their first pick. You guys had an elegant robot that could score those 5 points quickly, not to mention your kind team members and mentors that supported us even though we had some issues. You guys rock!

Team 379 had and amazing robot that could literally score from anywhere on the field. you had amazing people both on the crowd and on the field. I can't believe we got you as a second pick! that was unbelievable.

Team 1511, even though you guys didn't hit on the field you were always ready to take the next match! with such an amazing machine and team members you took a big part in our journey to Einstein!

and of course we can't forget the Finalists that played incredible matches and the only thing to separate between our score we 1 and 2 points!
Well done Teams: 3005-876-2557-4061.
Can't wait to see what the next championship will bring to us!
