Just wanted to let you know, you put 1747 on the newest list twice. Once near the top and once near the bottom.

It's possible someone submitted a second application for us.

I am just doing a cut and paste from the submission site, so there must be duplicate submissions. OR maybe they have 2 robots ... :D

Question: Are people still allowed to send in suggestions or endorsements for a team they want to see accepted?

Quick numerical sort (sorry, it was bugging me haha)

Hopefully the robit can make it the entiah event this time! Unfortunately, due to a numbah of circumstances Tem 1254 had to leave the competition early last weekend.

Aftah our strong appearance on the Couch Division, we hope to make our Corn sponsah proud with an even strongah appearance at IRI!

As someone who finds this whole gag hilarious I do have to remind folks that 1254 is in fact a real team with real students and real sponsors.

So, uh, yeah keep that in mind.

Hey!

The Couch Division was a relatively small division ne-ah the Newton Division last weekend.

Thanks for the vid link. It really clarified the Couch Division for me.

I had been wondering why Big Al did not assign a Couch LRI -- now I see it's all good, nothing to worry about.

From the looks of it, couch division could really have used a good LRI...

Couch actually had a great Inspectah!

The Waivah we got fo-ah bumpahs really ensured that the team got to the field!

Now I understand even better bettah, Tahm! You are a union (∪) man!

So, 1254 = 125 ∪ 254.

Not FRC 1254 Tech Force, located half an hour up the highway from me. They played at FiM Districts in Battle Creek and Grand Rapids this year, with a robot that looks much better than the one in Couch Division. :]

Now it seems like 4536 is doubled up.

We thought that double applying might double our negligible chances of getting in.

I'm glad to see 2052 on the list, this would be their first attendance at IRI if they go, and I think they have a slightly better chance of getting in than us.

Yeah, there was a slight glitch there. We've contacted the committee and asked them to delete one of them.

2052 will get in. This team has been the powerhouse in Minnesota since 2013. Outside of this year's robot, their last three showings at the MN State Tournament should be credence enough (Champs in '13, '14 and Runners-up in '15). Couple that with this season's robot throughout the regular competition season and then on Carson/Einstein will push them through.

Is the couch division going to be this year's "corndog?"

Will members of 125, 254, or 1254 be found sitting on a couch eating corndogs at IRI? I'm betting no.

Believe it or not, I have seen a team bring a couch to competition. Last year 4460 kept a nice big sofa in their pit, though I haven't seen them this year so I cannot confirm that they still do this. I did see a massage chair in the pits at MAR Champs this year, though I can't remember who brought it.

I know that 1923 has an awesome fold-out bench that can fit like 4 or 5 people. Libby, hit me up with where to buy that.

There was an FTC team this year at Champs that is sponsored by a furniture company and turned their put into a couch lounge. I think they put four couches in the area that was their pit and the empty space behind them.

They were our second pick at the Upper Darby district last year. I'm not sure how they got away with it, but they actually moved it to our queuing area field-side for the playoff rounds.

Me too. IRI will have a strong field this year, but maybe less diverse geographically than it has been in some previous years.

Of the 111 applicants listed earlier, I counted:

1 team each from Arkansas, California, Israel, Kansas, and Tennessee (5)
2 teams from West Virginia (2)
3 teams each from Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin (12)
4 teams each from Florida and the New England District (8)
5 teams each from the Chesapeake District and Illinois (10)
6 teams each from New York and Texas (12)
7 teams each from Minnesota and Canada (14)
9 teams from the Mid Atlantic Region District
16 teams from the Indiana District
23 teams from the Michigan District

We've used ours for 2 seasons and have definitely had more than 6 adult-sized humans on it without issue.

That listing is the one I purchased and it's held up like a dream! I'm really not sure why the reviews are that way...

Sorry to interrupt the couch discussion for something boring, but there must be something big going on in Indy the same weekend as IRI 2016. (Too lazy to go look now.) I had a lot of trouble finding double hotel rooms at a reasonable price nearish the new venue. The hotel we have stayed in every year is completely booked. I don't think it is FRC teams. And this is a little earlier than I usually book. To be fair, I am picky.

But I would encourage you to go ahead and find something. If FRC 16 doesn't get selected, I will auction off my 7 nice rooms.

I actually started looking in the week between MAR Champs and world's and I couldn't find any either. I didn't want to take a bus but we might have to because I will need a charter bus the entire weekend to get back and forth to the venue. There is nothing within reasonable cab distance available. Assuming we are lucky enough to be selected. My students already sleep in our pit normally so I will just bring a few more "boulder" pillows.

MN teams that applied: 2052, 2175, 2502, 2823, 3130, 4215, 4536, 4607, 5172. I'd say we have a good bunch of teams that applied this year from MN.

Here's what I have for team counts by state/province/country:

1: AK, CT, NH, KS, TN, WV, GA, Israel
2: ME, CA
3: CO, WI, MO
4: OH, FL

6: PA, VA, IL
7: NY, NJ, TX

9: ON, MN

17: IN

29: MI

Comparing this application field versus the 2014 application field, the middle 50% looks a little deeper in terms of competitiveness. If the same number of teams is invited as last year, there are going to be some strong robots that don't make it in. I count at least 105 of the 135 that were a finalist or winner in at least one event this year, and at least 55 of the teams were a finalist or a winner in at least 2 events.

Thanks for showing this. I had thought about doing something similar.

The IRI Planning Committee always has a tough job selecting invitees. If you were one of them, how would you sort teams based on this data?

OPR alone is not good, because it leaves out too many multiple event winners. Winner/finalist count alone has a similar problem -- too many high scoring teams left out. Maybe something like District Points?

If the IRI selection committee goes off of qual standings, 4607 does not stand a chance as we average 49.3 in our events. Our alliance pick number average (8.67) bodes a little better. I really hope that they don't look at boulders-scored-per-match either as we may be closer to '0' than '1'...

Nice spreadsheet! Never seen SPO before, it's interenting. It looked like some teams are missing the Playoff and Qualification portion of their points in SPO though (27, 2590, and 25 at first glance), unless I misunderstand the way the metric is calculated.

Good catch, I've added those selection points. I'll ask Mitchell to look at this again to figure out why they were missed. I found a few more teams with missed selection points and tried to correct them also.

The SPO (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1570382&postcount=24) metric uses calculated offense (OPR) instead of qualification points. It neglects awards. It also neglects defense. As discussed earlier, the IRI PC has a tough job selecting invitees -- not one I would like to automate.
