Everyone,
A former WildStang student (my son Mark) is working on his Master's Degree and needs your help.

Are you interested in a STEM career or are you currently working in a STEM field?

If so, please take a few minutes to complete this survey. I am a former FIRST student who is conducting research into why certain students are interested in STEM careers. This short survey will only take a few minutes to complete and no personal information is required.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

My education was in a different area of STEM. But, I got an internship, and that launched me in a different STEM direction.

Because of the internship, a lot of what the survey asked was not important to me. The experience I got with the internship was everything.

Being 56 years old, things have changed a lot.

Yea, I felt old since there was not really "Science TV" when I was growing up and Al Gore didn't invent the internet until I was well out of school and into my STEM life

Done, the survey did not account for me only doing a few years of community college before dropping out and going my own way. Also I always did far better in my science classes than I ever did with math, I didn't like how they were clumped together as one thing.

Yeah, computer games had little influence, considering I was out of school when Pong was first launched...

It is a pretty quick survey, and looks like it may have useful results towards shaping recruiting strategies.

I was diagnosed with "the knack" at a fairly early age. I loved watching MIT 2.70 class shown on PBS when I was in middle school.

A surprising number of people have requested that the results be posted. I have passed that request along.

I hope my answers didn't skew the survey too far. I feel like I'm an outlier (NO COMMENTS! :ahh: )

I kind of fell into a STEM career (computer programming, now specfically SQL development) because I was a math major and had no idea what to do with it. Math was something I was good at and due to early college credits I was on a roll with it.

And I'm "too old" for many of the demographic type questions - e.g. no such thing as video games when I was in school.

Everyone,
Thanks for the response thus far. There have been almost 400 completed surveys to date. However, the most under represented group thus far is middle school/junior high. If you have any students in that group please have them fill out the survey.

Survey update...
Almost 600 respondents so far but only one from pre-high school. To anyone with FLL ties, we would love to hear from your students if possible.
