Hi all, I come bringing sad news
According to this (https://twitter.com/cupcakeeater789/status/731939993304760320) post, FRC Team 233 Pink Team is retiring. A remarkable team who have done remarkable work and impacts over the course of their years in FIRST. A Floridian, as well as world, powerhouse that has paved a path like no other, it goes without saying that if this unconfirmed news is true, they will be so greatly missed.

I concur. Until an official communication to the FRC community is released, this is a complete rumor. This Twitter post is insignificant and could very well be false.

I'm going to not believe it until there is official confirmation, partly because that is what makes sense to do, and partly because I don't want to believe it.

According to the mysterious twitter poster they will not be announcing their retirement until after IRI. The poster claims to know this because she has a friend on the team. Either the twitter poster is a terrible friend or a liar.

Teams fold every year without formal announcements. If 233 is folding they don't owe anything to anybody in the FRC community to announce it. If they are and they do that's a nice thing to do but not necessary nor should it be expected.
Whether or not this is true, I'm confused about the word "retiring".
I know many teams disband from lack of funds, lack of interest, lack of mentors, but I'd never describe that as "retiring'.
I'm not sure if it turns out to be true if we'll ever hear a reason, but here's hoping they can turn it around.

I'm confused about the word "retiring".
Retired is the term for any FRC team that stops competing. Resurrected is the term used for any team that was retired and came back again (ex. Rookie year 1999. Competes from 1999 to 2008. Comes back in 2011). I don't think that term was used the wrong way.
I don't think that term was used the wrong way.
Thanks and I didn't mean that anything was 'wrong'.
It's just that the word 'retire' is a good thing to must of us old guys.

I find this rumor a little hard to believe. Then again, no one thought a team as strong as 1717 would dissolve, either. Until I hear more, I'm not believing anything.

So as someone on a Florida Team (and one with a very long history with 233) I am surprised and also not surprised by this announcement/speculation/misinformed youth.
Reasons it could be true:
• 233 is much smaller than it was when I first joined FIRST a long time ago
• Kennedy Space Center keeps facing budget cuts and 233 is their only "in house" team
Reasons I don't think it is true:
• 233 is not facing a massive drop in members as they are a current;y a similar size (http://www.facesthatmakeadifference.phanfare.com/7171488_8320396#imageID=256040502) as their 2014 Team (http://facesthatmakeadifference.phanfare.com/FIRST/6455422_7422567#imageID=210223956)
• If they were facing budget constraints they would not have attended 3 regionals (Orlando, Bayou, and Lone Star)
• If they were losing a build space or something of the like many teams in the area would offer assistance
• They continue to contend for the culture and robotics awards so getting dropped by the school for lack of performance does not make sence
• Finally members of their team did not make this statement, a member of 2512 did.
• 233's main design mentor has not worked for NASA in years
I have nothing to say on whether they are or aren't retiring but this is definitely wrong. Mike Dininny has worked for NASA his entire career and remains there today.

Until it is confirmed by 233 I do not believe this should be treated as reliable information. Certainly misunderstandings occur and remember this is likely 3rd or 4th hand information provided without proof by someone not affiliated with there team.
Pink has always been an awesome team to work with and I hope they will continue to be as great as they always have been.
Reasons I don't think it is true:

In my humble opinion, anonymous accounts deserve negative rep.
Why?
That does not follow the CD's FAQ
What are good and bad things to give negative reputation for?
Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation. If you have a personal grudge with someone, their team, etc, is it not appropriate to give them negative reputation for no reason. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is not an appropraite use of the reputation system. People are entitled to their own opinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the conversation.
Their alliance received a red card in both matches because one of the robots was significantly out of the rules (that robot had a second battery on board as ballast for playing defense).
That's insane... Did nobody think it was a bad idea to use that and not something like scrap metal?
Chris is me
16-05-2016, 12:36
Why?
That does not follow the CD's FAQ
Anonymous accounts generally do break forum rules, unless the poster does not have another account I guess...
Creating multiple accounts for a single person is not allowed.
That's insane... Did nobody think it was a bad idea to use that and not something like scrap metal?
It wasn't explicitly against the rules that year, a rule prohibiting the practice had been removed. The ruling created some controversy that probably shouldn't be rehashed here; do some searching to find the old threads.

Why?

Anonymous also typically falls into "not gracious". Whoever created this thread has stirred up some controversy. Whether it was with malice, I don't know.
Not to mention - why would the user care if their anonymous account gets negative rep? The anonymous account isn't created to have a reputation.
As a side bar, someone has just negative repped me for "You can not make up reasons to give neg rep". I didn't rep the OP, but the irony is strong with this one.
EDIT - I appreciate all the support, but please save your good (and bad) reps for posts deserving it.
As a side bar, someone has just negative repped me for "You can not make up reasons to give neg rep".LOL
Let them know that there are more things in Heaven, Earth, and CD, than are dreamt of in their philosophy.

My apologies. I did not mean to imply that any individual specifically gave the negative rep; I have no way of knowing who did it, but based on the red dot, it was obviously done. I have not given anyone negative rep for this thread.
Addendum:
I wasn't on the field, but reliable sources said that using the batterie(s) for ballast was OK'd be the inspectors before the start of the quarter finals. Then, there was a change of mind, and a call to FIRST HQ.
Didn't they have a manual handy?
R32 No batteries other than those allowed per R31 are allowed on the ROBOT, whether or not they are being used to supply power.
This means teams may not use additional batteries as extra weight on their ROBOTS, for example.

Let's just say that posting something that the twitter account even stated the team did not want to announce until after IRI is more than enough reason to give negative rep. Spreading rumors, even on the interwebs should not be condoned.

This, If the person really is friends with a member of the team they wouldn't do this. This sort of information is for them to come out with. It's like if your friend/family member had a baby and you posted the name on facebook before they could announce it.

Amen to this. It's in the rumor mill from an anonymous account linking to a Twitter post from somebody not even on 233 so I'd honestly not care about it that much. To everyone, just keep in the back of your mind that 233 might be retiring next year, and they might not. No official statement has been made. Regardless, I wish all members of the Pink team the best as they continue their journeys throughout FIRST, whether they take place on 233 or not.

The ROBOT battery must be secured such that it will not dislodge should the ROBOT be turned over or placed in any
arbitrary orientation.
No rule specifically against more than one battery on the robot. Just only one battery allowed to POWER the robot. R8 safety violation for using lead & acid for ballast. Question on rather or not robot was properly reinspected after modification. Currently inspectors are a lot more stringent documenting on re inspections because of this incident.

Red dotting cause someone you don't know posted on Delphi? That kind of promotes Anon's and Throwaways.
All accounts are anonymous until someone feels comfortable enough to share personal information. Throwaway accounts will always be useful as long as people don't feel welcome. If someone wants to post something controversial for the sake of something that truly matters to them, but they don't want it to blow back on the team then it makes sense to make a throwaway (multi accounting isn't allowed though.)

- An argument over the ethics of giving a red dot to an anonymous report based off a Twitter post

My rookie year, 2014, I remember seeing their bot compete at the Chesapeake Regional and being pretty blown away as a freshman. When we could barely put a robot on the field I looked to 233's slick looking bot as a source of inspiration to improve for the next year.

Yep, the team will continue, but it looks like some things will be quite different.
I may, or may not be with the team this year, depending on whether I am homeless in Florida, as the result of Matthew. If it turns out as bad as projected, I may be spending much of "the season" in Indiana.

Please let us know if those of us in Indiana can be of assistance if you end up here for a while.

Thanks for the offer. I'm a "snow bird" and have a place it Kokomo, where I can stay longer than I usually do if need be. It looks like the storm wasn't as bad as it might have been in my area in Florida. I should know more in a day or so.
