So CD is a bit slow right now... getting bored :D , so I decided to make this thread just for fun.

What are your summer plans. It obviously can be FIRST related, or not. What are your team's plans, any team vacations, or events, or outreach etc.

What are your personal plans, any summer camps or vacations etc.

Team has TRI coming up. Just working on tweaking things, working on a climber. Mostly just chilling since a lot of us on the team are really good friends.

I personally have a research program summer camp to go to at the end of june for three weeks. Going to finish my drivers ed this summer, so maybe I can finally stop asking my mom to pick me up from the build area at 11pm. And finish of the summer by volunteering at the hospital my mom works at. Going to be a fun, packed, but relaxing (if that makes any sense) summer. :)

Summer plans include:
Internship (at PTC-- yup, I can confirm that FIRST does help get your foot in the door!)
Planning the Summer Robotics Summit here in MN (August 6th, mark your calendars!)
Doing a bunch of improvements to the GOFIRST shop (hello new workbenches, tool chest, and CNC router)
Helping my FTC students design and test a new drive train concept we've been floating around
Not going to IRI (again) :(
Doing a bunch of pre-planning for fall events and Ri3D

And I'll finish it off by running the MN State Fair robotics demonstration.

It's going to be a busy summer!

Omg I'm a research fanatic - the only thing that matches (or may exceed :D ) my passion of FIRST. Do you mind me asking what research camp you plan on doing?

This summer I'm either working in a lab (MIT or NYU) on materials science research - specifically functionalized multi walled carbon nanotubes embedded with silver nanoparticles made into a MWCNT ink that can be used on various materials with an electric current running through it for cheaper and more efficient water filtration - possibly coupling this with shock electrodialysis.
(enough about that - PM me if you wanna geek out about it together :D )

Relating to FIRST, probably just planning details on various outreach events in the fall, fundraising, recruitment, and doing team bonding things that help make the world like donating time to the community, helping out soup kitchens, etc.

I'll also likely be volunteering/shadowing at various doctors clinics, but the best case scenario would be to volunteer at the hospital.

Though its packed I'm going to try not forget spending quality time with family - I rarely get time to see them during the school year. :D

For me:
- Continue volunteering couple times a week at the local library
- Play racquetball at the gym
- Going to people's high school grad parties.. lol
- Going to IRI with the team (last competition on 2052.. :( )
- Might learn Calc 2 on my own before taking Calc 2 in college?? (heard calc 2 in college is a weedout course.. might as well introduce myself to it before taking it in college)
- Attending summer registration events for UW Madison
- Might go to SRS at the UMN.. even tho I'll be a team alumni and won't be presenting on scouting/strategy like I did for the past 2 years, It's a FIRST event.. might as well go there cause I'm an FIRST addict haha
- Moving into UW Madison near end of summer

I'm going to a neurological and indepth research program at Brown University's medical research institute.

Cool! I've been doing active research with professors that I know at our coal universities (mainly LSU, (ur pretty lucky you have access to MIT :D)). 2 years ago i did a research/paper on carcinogens and coffee, a bit before I did effects of insecticides on various subjects, last year I started working on a water powered engine. I got a couple of donors and sponsors lined up, but while its still an ongoing project, I kind of sidelined it for a bit. This past year I've been working with a group of 2 friends on effectively a method to reuse a device's thermal output and reuse it as energy for the device, (it would take several pages for me to explain how :P), right now currently working on a phone case, but eventually expand to other devices such as laptops (mainly laptops like the macbook 2015 with no fans). We started out at about 5 percent efficiency, I think we are close to 60 percent now.

I'll also likely be volunteering/shadowing at various doctors clinics, but the best case scenario would be to volunteer at the hospital.

Yup, having volunteered last year at my mom's hospital's clinic I realised how fun it was interacting with the patients, and also just plain out solving the problems that every new patient case is :D. Really boosted my entusiasm to go into biomedical enginnering than medschool.
Though its packed I'm going to try not forget spending quality time with family - I rarely get time to see them during the school year. :D
I know right, especially after December. There is no break from anything.

Here goes it:

- Learning SolidWorks and HSMWorks
- Taking the train from CA to NY and back with my grandparents to go see my family in CT and NH.
- Learning how to TIG weld :)
- Riding my mountain bike (Had no time between school and robotics to ride) :D
- Getting my drivers license
- Hopefully helping Team 5940 get some new machinery
- Potentially helping a local FRC team set up a practice field

That's it! I know my summer is pretty boring compared to some of you all :). I'll edit the post if I remember anything else.

I'm working at a radio astronomy lab at the University of Arizona helping develop inflatable, spherical mirrors for space and balloon missions. I've mostly been designing, building and programming test equipment to support the project like a robotic radio dish mount for testing antennae.

I'll also be hiking when it's not too hot outside and trying to learn to cook.

(ur pretty lucky you have access to MIT :D))

Lot's of stress and emails later I luckily stumbled upon someone willing to help me. Research (as do most intense STEM activities) requires a lot of patience and dedication and persistence.

Might have to live in Boston for a few weeks so currently debating it. The lengths I travel for science....

I'm starting up my own company and doing all the work that goes into that. Basically I'll be running robotics summer camps with some local (and not so local) teams. Right now I have 9 camps scheduled, and 3-5 more in the works. Really excited to be able to put my passion for FIRST into my own company!

Other than that, I'll be enjoying my time off school and spending most weekends at my cabin. If you can infer anything from my username, it won't be hard to guess that I'll be very sunburnt this summer.:yikes:

I'll be tracking Cold Classical KBOs in the Kuiper Belt at Cal Poly SLO this summer. I'll also be helping design/build our offseason robot and fundraise for the team.

If I'm lucky, I'll also get to help raise a baby falcon for the second year in a row. Looks like a busy summer :D

Having graduated college, I'll be started a full-time job.

Hopefully managing to reorganize our team storage space.

Gitchi Gummi Get Together off-season event.

Gear up for next FTC season (and then next FRC season).

Yup only reason I have all these opportunities is through friend's friend's friend's friend's parent's, and through whole other really long and annoying "political" channels. But hey, the end result is worth it

-Swim laps a lot so I don't drown come swim season in August
-Show up in the shop and work on the offseason bot
-Work on developing tutorials (a new FRC project I'm working on)
-Keep up my Spanish and Calc knowledge over the summer
-Do various presentations for the team
-Hopefully get an internship working with one of our sponsors
-Finally get my driver's license after almost 2 years of having a learner's permit
-Trying to remember that I should probably hang out with my family because once school starts, I'm going to be busy till May.

1) Learn this crazy new job.
2) Learn this crazy new state.
3) Remember all the things I haven't flipped to my new address. Fix those.
4) Find a team near me where I can make an impact. 13 years in, I don't know any other way.
5) IRI, for business and/or pleasure.

Thanks, I was thinking of doing a solo one on how I interpreted scouting data on the team along with a strategy talk during competition (covering alliance selection and such..) basically it would be more in-depth of what I did as the team strategist and what more I/the team could of could've done. I'll definitely contact goFIRST if I'm set on an idea.

As for scouting/strategy, I'm sure 2052 will present it again at SRS with newer members to take over the presenter roles for experience purposes since the 2 seniors who annually presented are graduating.

I'm working at Lockheed Martin as an Intern. It's going to be great to get a real look at how the company works.

As for FRC, I'm trying to replicate 254's vision code and app. As well as working on more advanced control systems for the team such as motion profiling and trajectory following.

If you asked me 6 weeks ago, my plans would have been to start working on and implementing an extensive summer training program where the team teaches students all kinds of skills they need for the next build season, in order to increase engagement and involvement with the team.

Currently my plans are to stay away from meetings and FRC work as much as I can and try to get some rest and a normal life together for a few months. Burnout is real, and hey, it turns out it's a lot worse when your team's season doesn't end Week 4. I'll still be on CD too much though. And who knows, maybe in a week I'll get bored and start that training students thing.
