Wait, let me see if I can express my feelings in a more mature, professional way…
No, after additional careful consideration, I’m pretty sure I nailed it the first time. In fact, I’m doubling down. SQUEEEEEE!!
This isn't real yet, but it could be. LEGO has a process by which anyone can develop a LEGO set, post it on their site, and - if it receives enough votes and gets the final OK from LEGO - have it turned into a commercially-available product. This may be old news to some of you, but Matthew Quigley and Emily McDermott, two members of FRC Team 810, The Mechanical Bulls, from Smithtown, NY, USA, created a FIRST STRONGHOLD set using LEGOs and have started the process to turn it into a real set folks can purchase.
This is just the start of a long road. To even make it to the next step, we need to accumulate 10,000 votes on the LEGO website. That’s lots of votes, but to put it in perspective, it’s probably less than 15% or so of the total number of team members who participated in the FIRST STRONGHOLD season. Can we do this? I don’t know, but I do know that even the prospect of an official LEGO set for FIRST STRONGHOLD makes me smile.
You can vote for this set here. Registration on the site is required, but it’s easy, and it’s also easy to opt out of emails from the site afterward if you want to do so.
An added bonus in this set? Dean and Woodie Minifigures! And who wouldn't want those? No one, that's who. No one wouldn't want those. Check them out:
If you like this idea, please vote, and please be sure to share with your friends! If everyone seeing this blog gets just 10 of the people they know to support this*, it will put us one step closer to 'real'.
Frank
*And how hard can that be? You know 10 people, right? Maybe send it to 20, though, to account for the slackers. (You know the ones I'm talking about)

That's smart to separate the Red alliance tower and Blue alliance tower. Makes for more of a money grab and for suckers, like myself, to go out and get both sets to have the entire field. I just hope the two separate sets won't cost too much separately.

FIRST and LEGO already have a partnership... they should get these made before the game is announced so teams can use them for strategizing :)

At one of the events I was at, I remember a team that had a lamented print of the field, with movable (magnetic with a backing on the page, maybe?) 3-D printed defenses. Totally awesome.

First of all, on behalf of Emily and Matt, I would like to thank everyone for their support! We have more than doubled our votes today, compared to the amount we had accumulated in the first hundred days. However, this will be a long process, so please reach out to your teams for additional support! We're going to need it!

Having to create a LEGO account is probably deterring a lot of people.
The site is undergoing maintenance right now.

Having to create a LEGO account is probably deterring a lot of people.
Or some people are trying to remember what their accounts were, the ones that they created all those years ago. Accounts that are now long forgotten, discarded when all the games on their site became rubbish, and all their good product lines were ended to make way for some of the strange product lines they have today.
The site is undergoing maintenance right now.
It's back up again!

Technic line is still legit.

There is an exception to every rule I suppose.
But the real question is, who still remembers their lego account... if they ever made one that is...

This guy.
Supported the set.
Most sets on Lego Ideas that get 10k votes still don't get made, so it's a long shot...

I supported it as well, but I needed to make a new account.
I really hope that the set(s) makes it into production, how ever slim the chances may be.

With first backing this does no one wonder why they don't just contact lego directly and get it made in a limited quantity.

Lego is probably wondering what the demand for this/these product(s) will be, and/or first has bigger things to worry about than this lego set making it to market.

Don't they usually get rejected for IP issues or is it some other aspect that makes it unfeasible?

A lot of the ones I see are either IP is unavailable/too costly or simply too large/complicated.

Thats too bad. From what I can tell there are a few good ideas in there.
The real issue with the frc kit is the lack of people whom will buy it compared to most of their products.

Adambots (245) used that to plan one of our matches at Center Line. Utterly fantastic.
I don't remember if the little robots had magnets. Probably not, since our real robot flipped over that match :P

Someone on my team just shared this link (https://ideas.lego.com/projects/132444).
"Designed by a FIRST alumnus, volunteer, and mentor and a current FIRST student, this LEGO set is a scale model of half of the field for FIRST STRONGHOLD, the 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC http://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc)."
It needs 8715 more supporters in the next 446 days!

In this contentious election, there is one candidate Lego set we can all agree on. Vote Stronghold for president production 2016!

I was bored a little, so I played around with the 3d model and ended up with a photosphere. It's a bit weirdly tilted, but I don't feel like repeating the whole render just to get rid of that. You can rotate or download it on Flickr. (https://flic.kr/p/HUs9Jf) The full size picture is a bit bigger (10000x5000 pixels) so you'll want to head over to download it.https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7512/27504187554_76db31d98e_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/HUs9Jf)
