Hi, I am one of the two CAD leads of team 240. We are currently working on a database to build our library of drive trains, gearboxes, wheels, etc. We attempted this coming into the 2016 season, but i don't think it was built up enough. We plan on building it up more coming into the 2016-17 Season.

Anyway, i was wondering what your CAD teams do to better prepare for the Build season? Do you have a database? Also, do you split up your jobs on the CAD team? For example, do you have one person build the chassis, while others start the Mechanism?

Thanks,
Dillon

During the off season we train the entire team on CAD basics. We have a set of objects we have them build. If the student is already proficient in CAD, then they help the other students.

We are still struggling with the best way to organize CAD work during the season. Certainly one person working on a part at a time is expected. Then we usually have a mentor work with the assemblies. Even then this process is really tough and prone to issues.

We don't have a database of CAD drawings. Most things are custom CADed and for COTS items we either pull the drawing from the place we purchased it or more likely make simplified parts to use with only the essential details in the part.

See this CAD library I created before the 2016 season. It may have some helpful parts for your team.
