Hi,
I am working on an in house offseason competition for our team to train new members. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for games that the robots can complete in. The goal is to have both a driver and manipulator doing something at all times. Suggestions?

I'm not entirely certain I understand the question, you want a competition that groups within your team (3-7 people) could build smaller robots (made with something like VEX) in somewhere around a week, is that right? If so, I do have a game that you could use

Its a six week competition I just need suggestions for things that two teams can compete against or with each other

I will add that the goal of the competition is to simulate the actual build season, so we are looking for ideas that would be applicable to FRC sized robots.

Just a crazy idea here: How about building two new robots for the Capital City Classic on Oct. 22-23?
You could start your "Build Season" on Sept. 1st., work all the way up to the competition, and give all of your students valuable experience at an off-season event. We will be running workshops during the event as well.
This came to mind because our students are building another robot for CCC as well, so I thought I'd pass on the idea.

As a programmer I must ask "Why?" We try to automate our robots to the point where only the driver is required for control of the robot. Although using the manipulator as a spotter is always a possibility.

We like the use of a manipulator just for practice communicating in the case the next game requires one.

Do you mean six weeks to build the robot(s), or six weeks to compete? Or both? Maybe you could combine things from previous FRC games to make a new game. It would require new/different driving skills, but would be fairly easy to do.

Its 6 weeks build but I like the idea taking from the old competitions
you could do a variant off of speed connect 4. IE instead of turn based, they pick up a playing piece and score it as quickly as possible. Score 1 point per piece and a bonus for 4 in a row.
There's an offseason competition "class" known as "BunnyBots". Might be right up your alley. I haven't seen their game for this year, but some searching will probably turn it up. I'll see what I can find.
