Alright, does anyone have anything for FRC?
considering that an actual hint doesnt come out till late December (usually) Not much will come out till then.
we could talk about water games tho
2014-2015(I think) Vex game: boxes to be stacked on cylindrical posts
2015 FRC game: boxes to be stacked, and cylindrical cans to cap those stacks
2015-2016 Vex game: balls that can be scored in low and/or high goals, climbing/scaling
2016 FRC game: balls that can be scored in low and/or high goals, climbing/scaling
2016-2017 Vex game: cubes and "stars" that are thrown across the field, climbing/hanging, and a "fence" in the middle of the field
2017 FRC game: inflatable cubes? Stars or those spiky inflatable balls (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00UKELDNY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472000935&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=ball+with+spikes&dpPl=1&dpID=41auPeD80yL&ref=plSrch) would be unusual pieces...
Last years hint came out October.

Based on last year's game having more water than 2015 (moat vs. nothing), I can safely predict that extrapolating onwards, 2017 will have puddles, and 2018 will be held in a pool.

HO HO HO!
HAW HAW HAW!
HA HA HA!
(safely predicting anything in FRC?)
Snort, snort, snort!
Giggle, giggle giggle!
Heh, heh!
Sigh.
The rumor I heard is that CD will collectively guess the game wrong again, but the launch video will somehow be even more campy than last year's Monty Python filled introduction.
This years game will be Olympic themed.
Since we had soccer and basketball, maybe this time it will be fencing or a relay race.
Jousting would be too much fun. Might have to wait another 4 years for the medieval theme to cycle around again.

The hint video last year was released on October 14th. Based on the reasoning given for releasing a teaser instead of a hint and the game's name this early opposed to not at all in previous years, I would expect FIRST to release another teaser sometime around mid-October.

a relay race.
That's an idea worth thinking about. I can imagine a some very interesting variations on that theme.

With a pole vault end game.
Ether is on the GDC and this years game will involve answering complex math quiz questions. :D

Minnesota, California, New York, and Texas are all going districts this year. 100% legit.
There will be a single year, 2018, in which there will be Championship events in St Louis, Houston, AND Detroit.
Championtrips.

Ha. Nice try.
Rumour around the mill is... harambe will play a major roll in this years game as a memorian

I don't think any MN events have been announced yet, I think he's on to something.
(For anyone worried about the Iowa Regional, Iowa FRC is rapidly growing and should be enough to displace any missed Minnesota teams)

I believe that Duluth is listed as week 1 per the venue calendar.

Correct, both the Northern Lights and Lake Superior regionals are Week 1:

How do you get this view of the events from the new website? I get the hard to read list that is alphabetized, and includes kickoff events.

It's not from the new website (which is why it's useful). If you look at the link, you'll see it's still based off the usfirst.org site instead of the firstinspires.org
First HQ is hard at work revising the new website to make it more user-friendly. Roll out date coincides with first event registration.

Sine there seem to be so few rumors in this thread, I'm going to jump into rapid and irresponsible speculation! I already posted this picture on the 4 year cycle theory thread, but I'd like to share it again to see what other response it might get:

What you might get from this depends on you, but from how I see it, an inflatable based game with an open field is very likely, and there's a 66%-75% chance of a lifting/rising based endgame. I'd love to hear/see what patterns other people see and what you can get from this! Thanks!
I realize there is a slight error in the chart, sorry

That got me thinking.
October is the 10th month.
14 + 10 = 24
24 is the amount of hours in a day.
There are 365 days in a year.
365/5=73
73 is a prime number.
103 is the 27th prime.
27 is the age Dean Kamen was when he was 27.
Coincidence? I think not.
But wait, there's more.
27 is the atomic number of cobalt, which is blue.
Water is also blue.
Water is found in the ocean.
Dolphins are found in the ocean.
Dolphins have a life span of 40 years
Could this mean the next FRC game contains green bouncy balls?
But in all seriousness, it would be cool to see a new element that isn't related to balls etc. (baton anyone?).

FIRST, please make it happen! Since the FTC/FLL(Jr.) students won't see FRC at the same location, nearby teams that aren't going to CMP could demo their robots.

ROCKET GAME!
This years game will basically be Air Hokey using three pucks 1 meter in diameter and 30cm high played on a field of Glasliner FRP. All teams will have to use special mandated wheels as their only contact with the field surface.

I know my team won't be going (back-to-back with North Star is pretty much a non-starter... North Star is Week 6 and 10k lakes must be a different date. WOW!
Could this mean the next FRC game contains green bouncy balls?
Now that I think about it, bouncy balls would be cool. Wait...there was a "Bride of the 2017 Update" blog post...Vex has a space game...there's a pinball machine called Pin-Bot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pin-Bot)...and a sequel, The Machine: Bride of Pin-Bot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Machine:_Bride_of_Pin-Bot)...It's a pinball game! :D

Here's your obligatory dissection of the August 26th blog post:
I’m getting pumped for another great season! Can’t wait to reveal this year’s game!
Frank
(emphasis may or may not be my own)
Inflatable game pieces confirmed? :ahh:
Inflatable game pieces confirmed? :ahh:
Probably. But what else can be pumped? Liquids...water game confirmed?
2016 had plenty of inflatables...
as in inflatable wheels.
Here is my theory.
First there are elements from last years game, specifically the towers in town picture.
The robot in the picture looks somewhat generic, so no real clue there, but to me the biggest hint is the crowd scene where the blimp it taking off. My theory therefore is that the competition will involve compressing/building 'steam' and once the target it reached a flag is waved (see crowd scene on left) and a blimp is launched (floating balloon?), perhaps points for height achieved.
I fantasized that we could use drones and have them launch off the robot, but that i think is a bit much for some of the venues to support ie. multiple flying bits!!! ::ouch::
Just my observation so far.
