Hello all,
When does the Nasa FRC rookie grant release I saw last year is was due on Oct 1.

As this implies I am a rookie at this attempting to start a new team, but finding it difficult when what I see from NASA is :

"The NASA FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) grant application system for the 2017 FRC season will become available shortly. Please check back often for status updates. "

does this mean I missed the window to apply? or what is going on...

Than you all for your help.

See the part I bolded. What that means is that you are looking before the window opens, so you have time.

I suspect that the NASA Grant details will be up around the time registration starts, which would be in about 2 weeks. You'll want to check back before then, though, as I could be completely wrong about that.

Just as a friendly piece of advice, read the grant completely, and make sure you have everything lined up to submit before submitting the final application. (And, if you happen to have some free time... there may be some more tips somewhere in this list (https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/search.php?searchid=7524367)--like anything posted by user dlavery regarding items that might trip you up. If you have trouble, use the advanced search in the orange bar under "search", username (right box) dlavery, topic "NASA Grant" (left box).)

Piece of advice from a sophmore team...

Apply for both the FIRST Rookie Grant and the NASA rookie grant. The decision on both last year was delayed up to the day the registration fees were due (about 3 weeks late). Usually FIRST catches the rookie teams that NASA can't cover so FIRST delayed their decisions until NASA released theirs. The NASA grant covers the full FRC registration while the FIRST grant is divided $4k/$2k over the first two years because FIRST wants you to have some skin in the game. We were fortunate to be approved for both but you can only accept one.

Good luck and be patient. This game is all about dealing with the unexpected and making changes on the fly.

IM me and I can share my experiences with you with regard to grant writing. It can help if you have seen someone elses.

To your future success....

Also,
I don't know how much the NASA Grant application has changed in the past few years - PLEASE follow the 2017 Grant application, but I'm guessing this paper can still be of use to those applying:

In FIRST you will find no shortage of people willing to help a rookie team. Count me among that number. We learned a lot last year.
The private message function top right does work.
We are over in Western Wisconsin but competed at Minneapolis last spring.
