Tonight is supposed to be the announcement of NASA grants. If anyone hears anything about this, please post here!

Last year they were about two weeks late. I wouldn't hold out for tonight. They got posted/awarded around the 19th and 20th.

NASA can take all the time they need, I'm sure they have hundreds of entries. Fingers crossed that my team can finally get one..

Yeah, I remember that, but I am hoping we do hear soon. Do you recall if FIRST delayed the payment deadline too?

No payment delay last year. You can read about what happened in these two (https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139177) threads. (https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138976)

Just noticed a status update on their website:

The NASA FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) award list will be posted very soon. The Robotics Alliance Project is diligently reviewing all submissions and will post our final selections once we are authorized to do so. We know that your teams are anxious with anticipation for the results and appreciate your patience and understanding for any deviation in our previously announced timeline. Please check back often.

So that's a confirmed delay. Hopefully it won't take more than a couple of days.

Last year they were delayed until the day before the entry fees were due. And FIRST delayed announcing the Rookie grant recipients too until after NASA announced their selections....

So don't get anxious if they are delayed.

I wouldn't get worried until they push it further than they did last year. And even then, it might take them longer.

Merged some posts in from other forums - please keep the discussion to this one thread for clarity and so everyone can learn about grant updates in one place. Thanks!

Any teams worrying about payment deadline - FIRST has just posted a blog pushing it back to the 28th (1 week later than original).

This is exactly what happened last year. FIRST delayed their registration due date until NASA announced their selections and then FIRST announced their grant selections too.

Our team was sweating it out too because our whole rookie season depended on getting at least one of those grants. In the end, we got selected for both and had to choose between the two.

Have a good Thanksgiving. Just try not to get too worked up.

Will 179 be attending Rocket City rather than SMR now since you received the challenge grant?

Did you sign up for both events prior to the announcement?
Just curious.
We applied for Rocket City Challenge Grant but didnt receive it.
We werent sure if we had to sign up first, then apply for the grant or if it wasnt necessary.
What we didnt want happen to us again was signing up for an event, and then be told later they no longer were offering challenge grants at all after the announcement. i.e. New York Tech Valley 2016

They're already registered for Smoky Mountains. Rocket City is the same week (booo. Wish we could go again), so they have to drop SMR first.

No we did not sign up for Huntsville prior and also we put in the application that we would not attend if we did not receive the grant
