Hi CD,
We're a second year team, and I've gotten conflicting information online and I couldn't find a definitive answer online on whether we get a new RoboRio this year. I know we got one last year, but I'm not sure if the inclusion of the RoboRio is just for rookie teams. Could someone clear this up?
Thanks,
Tiger

Traditionally, in the past only rookie teams have received the full control system, unless there was a major change in the system itself.
Veterans have only received one roboRIO and that was the year we started using the roboRIO based control system.
Some individual components, like the PDP or the VRM or the robot radio, have been received by vets after there has been a redesign or new product release, but it's only happened a few times.
No control system hardware changes have been submitted to the Beta teams for testing.
Last year rookies received a yellow tote in their KOP that the veterans did not. Here were the contents of the rookie-only tote:

If history repeats itself, and I'm confident it will, you won't get another one. The rookie kit comes with the yellow tote of extra goodies that veterans do without. The control system is typically lumped into that list of items.

Because of a change in FCC rules, we will all be getting a new radio for the robots (I don't recall if they announced which model it would be).

Maybe, maybe not.
To satisfy the FCC just requires a change in the existing firmware.
The details are on the FRC Blog: http://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/blog/2017-control-system-update
Robot Radio
In June, we blogged that we would be introducing a new radio for the 2017 season, and can do so now. The new radio for the 2017 season is the OpenMesh OM5P-AC. The OpenMesh OM5P-AN will continue to be competition legal, provided it has updated 2017 firmware. In order to comply with FCC regulations, the FRC firmware for the OM5P-AC and OM5P-AN disables the web interface and SSH access. You will only be able to configure the settings on the device using the FRC Radio Configuration Utility. Meanwhile, we will add flexibility to that tool to cover as many use cases as possible.
The OM5P-AC is available from Open Mesh and will soon be available from AndyMark. See those sites for pricing and availability. Devices won’t be usable until the firmware and configuration utility are available to teams. Worst case, they’ll be posted on Kickoff Day, and if we can publish sooner, we will announce via this blog.

It's the OMP5-AC. It's the same thing, just less open to make it legal to use in America. As far as I can tell, no beta teams got ahold of this radio early, so we're not entirely sure of all of the differences.
