With all of the debate going on with what next-gen system is the best I just wanted your input? Which is your favorite system and why?
Your "why" can't be something like "Cuz the others are ugly" or "I hate Microsoft" or something like that, I actually want a reasonable response.
I'll start off. I like the Gamecube the best, because of Metroid (great game), also the connectivity to the GBA is really cool not to mention the e-reader/GBA connection for Animal Crossing (another great game!!)
The poll is flawed.
It is lacking the original NES, Sega, real old school Atari, etc. And most importantly, PC.
To answer the question, I prefer PC because it's capable of so much more. My current hardware setup is more powerful (in graphics capability, memory, procesor, etc) than all 3 of the "Nextgen" systems put together. Given another year or so, I'll wager we'll start to see emulators arise for each of the systems. Resolution is a biggie too, even a PC moniotor at 640x480 is much more clear than a standard TV's output, even with colorstream, svideo, and the like.

While I do appreciate your input about all of the old-stuff. This is why it is a "Nextgen" poll. With all of the debate going on I thought I would give people a chance to voice their opinion.
I like Gamecube, though I would probably spring for a PS2 if I ever get an actual job that pays money.
Xbox, well...beyond Halo, it didn't have any real qualities, and they're going to have to try a lot harder than MechAssault to get me interested.

I like the GameCube. Why?
I've always like Nintendo games the best. (yah, fanboy, I know)
Metroid
Resident Evil Series
SSBM
TimeSplitters 2 (yah, I know it's on all the systems, but it is simply the best FPS ever)
Nintendo has always been innovative, come up with great games consistently, and I will have Nintendo systems for years to come.
If I got another system, it would be an XBOX (I have a GBA already). I like the XBOX's controller a lot better (They even make a smaller version now, so no complaining about that) than the PS/PS2 controller, I mean, who decided X's and O's and triangles were a good idea? It's been letters for over a decade!!! Stick with that! The XBOX also seems to be prettier graphics wise and more powerful, Sony has nothing that really draws me to their system.

Me, I prefer the Gamecube because Nintendo is the only company that provides games of all categories. Example: Adventure, Action, Racing, Shooting, Puzzle, etc. etc. Unlike the PS2, and Xbox, they're all fighting. I like fighting, but I prefer more variety. I've played the PS2 and enjoy it but Xbox is out of the picture. I don't really like the Xbox because Microsoft controls too many markets although I like Microsoft. Another reason why I prefer the Gamecube, I just like the games. Of all of that, PC games are getting better so I play more of those games nowadays.

I couldn't think of anything further off reality. While Nintendo does rule the "simplest controls and gaming" category, no other consol system beats the PS2 for gaming variety. For proof of this, just look at the PS2 Greatest Hits collection, it is chalked full of games from ever one of those categories. Neither the GC or XBOX can even come close to the numbers of games produced for the PS2. Not to mention the price difference between the games.
While the PS2 is beat in graphics and hardwear, the thing you have to take into consideration is that is was released almost 3 years ago (unveiled in 1999, mass production in 2000). Now, add the conviction of how fast technology advances, and add a year and a half, and yes, you will see the difference in the graphics quality that you see in the XBOX and GC. So what? So the PS3 is already in production, and yes, it will play PSX, PS2, AND PS3 games.
Now, controllers...controllers are all about each person's preference. I like PS contollers, the buttons are separated well and I like the placement of the d-pad and joy sticks. So, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the others, just a preference. I am not a fan of the "one huge button and a few smaller ones surrounding it" idea of the GC and the XBOX controller is nothing but a rip-off of the sega through sega saturn controlers.
Games I love:
the Tony Hawk Series (originated on PS)
Jak and Daxter (PS)
Time Splitter series (PS)
GTA series (PS)
Red Faction (PS)
and just to rub it in *even thought I don't play them*
the FF series
My brother has a gamecube... but i kindo of prefer PS2. I'm not really into video games that much. I do have an atari tho. It's awesome. lol

It plays better than it looks, that I can assure you of. So what if the XBOX controller is a ripoff? Saturn (and Dreamcast) had great controllers. Microsoft looked at what had been done right, and did it.

For Playstation 2 i like:

I'd have to go with Gamecube. Of course, I've been a Nintendo fan forever (I have every Nintendo system except Virtual Boy), so my opinion's a bit biased. I just like the variety of original titles they offer. Too much of the XBox and PS2 lineup is either ports from the PC, a common title across all systems, or something that is eventually ported to the PC. Nintendo, on the other hand, has more exclusive titles in a wide range of genres.

With the addition of everquest and FF11 coming :D (yeah man!!) PS2 will easily dominate all other gaming systems.. yeah for ps2 and the family..

X-BOX all the way!
It's a computer for only 200!!
PS2 has some decent games out now, but wait till X-Box starts to roll-out!

Very nice Elgin, I would really like to get some old old systems, like some Ataris, Colecovision, Commodore 64.

According to Nintendo's Winter 2002 Catalog, this will soon no longer be an advantage held by PS2 alone...a FF game is in the works for the Cube as well...

Since when is N64, Dreamcast and PS1 considered Old-School. Old School is Atari, Nintendo, Sega Genisis, SNES, and Gameboy (original grey that really didn't fit in your pocket). Give these systems a year or two more before you call them old school. About a year ago the N64 and PS1 were the only systems. Only two real systems have come out since and to call these other systems old school after a year is making it seem like a year is for ever. It took ages for the Nintendo to finally phase out and the same will be true with the N64. Well after all this talk I am back to my Atari 2600.

Not so true...when was the last time they released a new game for the N64? Unlike previous Nintendo systems where games were released for both systems for quite some time, GC has pretty much made the N64 obsolete. It's kinda sad when buying a NES or SNES is more expensive then a N64...
Also, Nate, I was referring to the origins of the games, not what the newest titles are being released on. It does sadden me to see Tony Hawk and FF games on anything other then PS.
I got an x-box, mostly for Halo. It's that good of a game.
Currently, all I have otherwise is Medal of Honor: front line. Not to shabby, and it has the Medal of Honor title, so you know it'll be fun. I also have Jet Set Radio Future, which is horrible.
I dunno, for me it's between ps2 and xbox. Xbox having its own hard drive is extreamly cool (no more crappy memory cards! yes!). X-box also wins because it's just so freakin' huge! The thing weighs a ton!
The only real problem I have, is that consoles playing FPS's just seems wrong. I like the controls and all, but you never have the speed and accuracy of a mouse. It just feels sloppy. Oh well, it's still Halo, and the x-box is still a really big and really black box. Kinda like a Cadilac, but with AV plugs.

For the GC, I have Star Wars Rogue Leader Rogue Squadron 2 (Too long of a name. Oh well), SSBM, and XG3 Racing. XG3 Racing being my most favorite. I'd like to get Metroid Prime and Star Wars The Clone Wars someday. For the PS2 (which I don't have), I like all of the Armoured Core games, and all of the Dynasty Warriors games. For the PC, I have/like Emperor - Battle For Dune. Other than that, that's all I have to say.

I still have the first nintendo system, the big, bulk original gameboy, the n64 system, and of course, the GC. I'm a Nintendo freak. So what? lol.
Ghostbusters was great on the sega master system!!
I like the GameCube. Nintendo has a good rep. and its very good hardware wise. It also has great games... So I give the Cube a 10 out of 10!

My favorite consoles have to be the gamecube, dreamcast, and genesis.
You can obviously see I have a bias for sega games :D
The big blue character, one of my favorites, and I have no idea why.
http://www.sega.com/images/gamecube/gameimg_sonic2.jpg
*grin* best video game character of all time.
I kinda felt sorry when they stopped showing the cartoons, I liked both of the ones that existed :D
Why is it that I see all these sega fans, and not a single one has mentioned owning a Saturn? I got mine :D

Oh yeah, well I'm not too far behind you in thoe whole age area since I do have one of THESE (http://www.oriole.net/~rworne/microvision.shtml)
So Ha!!!!! And double Ha, mine is a true portable system!!!!
Sean, btw, why don't you use one of the pics I took of you down in FL. for your bio?? You look like you got the whole 80's hairdo thing going on in your current picture!! LOL!!

I own one of those too, that was fun while it lasted!!!! I loved playing Daytona USA without any wheels on the car!!!
THPS4 has to be one of the coolest games(if not one of the most addictive games ever created) the graphics are awesome, it has a great replayability, is really indepth...
Resident evil code veronica X is a hard game... especially if you leave the fire extinguisher in the Metal Detector box and go on in the game and cant get the Magnum to beat the mutated lady who has purposely infected herself... i have to restart the game... crap...
The other systems have there strong points but by far gamecube is still the best. Nintendo did itself no good by coming out with all these little kids games. All these games that are ment for two year olds. But now with title like metriod prime and die hard the gamecube has finally reach where it should be. If you look at the two other system all you get for great huge games is GTA for PS2 and halo for XBOX. Gamecube you get metriod, mario, timesplitters, Mario, and so on. Great quality games that a player can get into. Not sick of in like two hours. Plus best of all. Pracally no gliches. Comone who isn't sick of being caught byt the police on the ground while flying a chopper high in the air. That seems a little cheap to me.
I can't get enough of playing War of the Monsters on my PS2!

PS2! It is much better then Xbox and Gamecube. I say this because I'm a big time RpGer and so far the Ps2 has the best RpGs. Final Fantsy for example. Amoung other great RpGs on release for the system. And dont even start with the new FF CC for game cube that game looks just as bad as the game boy FFs.
And besides the Playstation has always been best. But other then that was the SNES. Old school- and great RpGs.
My favs (in order):
-----------------------
SNES & PC
Ps2
PsONE
Genises
DC
NES
Atari

My favorites are the PC, Playstation 2 and X Box (only cause it has Splinter Cell).
Actually Palm Pilots are beginning to take over gameboy... They say Palms might take over as the best on-the-go video game player...

Right now I'm running a PS2..
however, the best game system ever is the Sega Game Gear- I have over 20 games in my closet.. It saved my life whenever I was going on a long trip or whenever I couldn't sleep.. Watching little blobs of color move around gives a unparalleled thrill..

I'm definitely a GCN fan. If you want to compare graphics capabilities of the various platforms, look at Metroid Prime. One word - textures. It looks more realistic than anything else I've seen, even on PC.
About Timesplitters 2, is it like the original, but with beefed-up graphics and not only on PS2? Because that game had the best multiplayer of any FPS I've seen.

TS2:
Looks Awesome
Done by alot (if not all) of the original Goldeneye team
Has everything everyone wanted in Goldeneye
Better than Goldeneye! (Hard to believe, but true!)
Bots that are fun to play against :ahh: :yikes: but can still be set to 'moving target' or 'invincible killing machine' if you like that kind of thing.

I have been a die hard Nintendo fan for as long as I could remember. Nintendo has been coming out with games that are creative, unique, and amazing for most age groups (kids, teenagers, and adults).
My problem with the PS2 is that it is very seldom that they come out with a game that is really awesome. Yes they come out with a lot of games (from various categories) each year but, most of them are really not that great. Whereas Nintendo comes out with a few games each year (except for last year they marketed 180 games in 180 days) yet the majority of those games range from pretty good, to awesome. For the majority, I rate games on gameplay (enjoyability).
I prefer to wait, and pay a little bit more money for a game that has been well developed, and keeps me entertained for years to come.
I also believe SquareSoft was originally with Nintendo...
I still have all of my Nintendo consoles, and over the summer, play with them and relive a few good memories.:)

ok i prefer old school systems and I am not talking about the PS1 dreamcast N64 and such. The system I play the most (except if PC were counted) is <drum roll> NES thats right the original. There are many reasons for this. The main one is that newer games (for the most part) worry so much about graphics that they lose the challenge. I still have more problems with some NES games then I do with most X-box or PS2 games. Sure there it is fun to play some Dynasty Warriors every now and then and just slaughter everything in your path. But where is the challenge. As far as storyline goes in games I would have to say go to Dragib Warrior 4. or check out the SNES Final Fantasy games (4 5 & 6)
For those of you are not just obsesed with graphics pick up your old system and play some of the games they still rule. Just recently beat Dragon Warrior IV. Currently working on gauntlet.
But PC > NES
sorry but Everquest rules

One thing that I think is weird is the paradox involved with the Gamecube. If you ask most people which of the consoles is the "kiddiest," many (if not most) people would say Gamecube. However, kids tend to shy away from the Gamecube, because they want to look "mature" (which, to them, is anything with blood and sex, anything rated M). Therefore, despite its reputation and Nintendo's continued attempts to change it, it seems that the majority of the people who play it are older people that played the classic series on the NES and SNES. Weird, eh?

All the systems have their great games, which makes it hard to choose... lol maybe they should all work in a combined effort to port system-specific games to other systems. Oh well, My brother has an XBox and I have a GCN. Xbox has some really good games - Halo, Splinter Cell(now coming for GCN). But the gamecube has some good games too like the new Zelda (I still need to get that aghhh) and Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee is a classic.
If you have the money, it'd be a good to buy possibly 2 of the 3 systems. Don't forget PS2 - it rocks ;)
