View Full Version : The Q&A forum
I like the idea of the O&A forum. Two suggestions:
First: Make the description smaller. It takes up way too much space with the 'extra' side bar.
Second: You need to find a way so that it doesn't become 'cluttered', like all the other forums. Moderation would be a pain beacuse of all the posting. Mabey make it so that users can only post new topics and the veterans who will be answering the questions will be the only ones allowed to reply. This would prevent users from trying to help, but only giving false info.
Great idea though!

think the point of the Q&A forum is for answering questions only.
Here is what meaubry said about his idea:

Lastly, use our Forum to "Ask questions about whatever - but please check out the existing threads because once this thing gets rolling in January the sheer # of posts will astound you and we get many redundant or nearly redundant questions. As a service to "Just the Rookies" I'll see if Brandon can add a Forum where Rookies can ask questions without them being intermingled and lost in the other threads - sort of a Place where Rookies can ask questions that Rookies always ask" - Have fun and Best of Luck this year!
Just talked to Brandon about this... And he asked me to suggest people who would be good as answerers, and I gave him a short list of people on CD who've been really helpful in the past years. The impression I got is, those answerers would be the one answering the questions, and anyone else's answers would be moderated by those people to make sure the answers are good.
Then there will be a link at the end of the thread if people wish to start a discussion about the question.
This should help people who need answers right away. I am eager to find out how it will work out. Got to make sure what happened last year at the FIRST yahoo board doesn't happen again in here.
Answers should be consistant, and doesn't drag out too long to be answered...

Sounds good to me!

Yeah. The description will be moved to a sticky post inside the forum soon.
The forum is locked until we get a few people to answer the questions (invite only, sorry).
The only people allowed to reply to threads in this forum will be selected (see above :) ). Everybody will be allowed to post a question.
The purpose of this new forum is to have a place to get quick answers, without 300 opinions floating around. There will be a link to start a new discussion, as Ken pointed out, and so if you feel the need to add your 2 cents, you can go discuss it in some other forum. (this mechanism still being designed :))
Anyway. It should be open within a few days.
Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is what you were talking about in your previous post Brandon, but can you change the automated username for the bot to something shorter than "ChiefDelphi Discussion Bot"? When I do a search for all new threads, the colums are squished to make room for the longest username, which is always "ChiefDelphi Discussion Bot" It makes the first column, the topic, become very small and have many lines to it. If you can shorten the name of the automated bot's username to something like maybe, 14 characters long, (just using that number because that was the next longest username in the search for the username of team220badbrad) it wouldn't make the columns be squished so much!
Thanks Brandon, You Da Man!!!
