Ok, this is probably not the most unique you've heard, but what if there is a pool in the middle of the playing field, but instead of H2O, it is filled with packing foam nuts! I really think it can be a possibility! A fun one, too.

it's a thought.......
Packing foam is really staticy, so it would not only get all over the field and make a horrible mess, but it could possibly shock some sensitive electrical parts on robots....to many risks in this idea for me

They do make some that are anti-static which are used for packing computer parts. These in particular I believe do not break a part as easily and if I remember right they are white, and cylindrical and safe to eat.
Well then, that would make it quite interesting

Then the game could be for the robot to bring as many as possible to the human player who would then score points by consuming them as quickly as possible.

I've had those before. ;)
I think they are made from potatos. Not sure I would eat them, but it's fun to pour water on them and watch them melt ;) .
But back to the topic of robots: packing peanuts plus moving gears = scary.

i heard they were made of cornstarch...
did you know that they actually use real popcorn without butter or salt as a packing material? i guess it makes sense, since they sometimes call the foam stuff "popcorn" too...:)

Nope, just a bunch of ground up packing peanuts. As long as the motors have enough torque, you'll be fine. Now as for chains and sprockets and packing peanuts, that could be a little scary.
