View Full Version : 2003 field revealed??

I was browsing the FIRST website this afternoon and was looking at the 2002 Competition Document: The Game (pdf - 73 KB).
It didn't describe how the game was played or anything but it appears as if there are footballs and balls again. I guess we must have to place them in the squares??
I think FIRST must have accidently placed this picture there when getting ready for the 2003 competition because it is no longer there.

I think you've stumbled across something huge! We'll find out tommrow!
I don't think they've uploaded anything to the website yet. I've been browsing around & can look at some of the directorys (shh.. don't tell :)). They know there dealing with kids who may know quite a lot about web stuff, and if they wanted to find a file on a server, they could. SO... I but they have some guy waiting in front of some server with his finger hovering over the 'ENTER' button waiting for the game to be announced, and then will upload all the new stuff withen an hour(s).
It's just my guess though. I know first doesn't want anyone to find some file a day early and post it on CD. :)
PS: They could have tested uploading some files this afternoon and then pulled them down. You hapened to be the lucky one snooping when they did it, and found a pic. Hmmmm... I figure they have some 'goal' to go into the squares.
That all is if you didn't make the pic in adobe yourself :) - sorry, can't really trust a thing in the rumor mill
an edit of last year's diagram.

judging from all the talk about how different things are, and my instincts, i'm going to say thats is a fake drawing, moded from last years. i really hope that isn't the real field because its really boring looking

I agree I think FIRST just put that up there to mess with our heads

Upon looking at it closer, i now think that it's a fake also...who knows.
But I've got this itching feeling Mr. Flowers is behind it all!

By Brad. He posted it.
There's too much that is exactly the same as the 2002 diagram, cropped out because it was irrelevant, or left out (labels for the colored patches in the center, for one). Nice try.

I'm highly skeptical of this one. First, it's amazing that FIRST's webmaster not only mixed up years, files and file types, but that he/she also put files on the server before the game is released. Secondly, this picture is really inconsistant with FIRST's documents in previous years. The picture should have been contained in a .pdf format and have been done in illustrator or some other vector program. The document also would have contained details of the game.
Compare this attached screen shot of last years game with his. Note the presence of balls in the exact same location both years in the player's zones. There is also two different types of ball.

Not pointing fingers but: team222badbrad
BUT... remember the last prank w/ location of nats. A fake site was made, another person saw the link and uploaded a pic of what they saw. SO... team222badbrad could have seen it for real, but faked by someone else.
WAIT... He said he was looking at a pdf. Now, arn't images in pdfs directly in them? IE: you can right click and 'Save As'? Then how would he have a jpg file? - He would have just saved the pfd file and uploaded it here. Now, it could be a screen shot, but there are no taskbars/windows. He could have removed them in photoshop, but why do that for just a screen shot? - The best proof yet that it's a fake. Sorry team222badbrad, we got'ya this time :)

It only took me about two minutes to delete his crap and add stars instead of balls. MAYBE WE HAVE TO GET ALL THE LUCKY CHARMS. Probably not... but it would go right along with that fake screen shot.

yea its fake, if you look around the "footballs" on the sides of the field you will see if you have somewhat of a good printer, that it was cut from something else because of the off greyness that is surronding the "footballs"then the grey suddenly stops, its an excellent job, who ever did it I say good job then
</Not Really Just kidding>
Kick them in the balls

Hate to say it, but I doubt the field will be much different from this...I'd say to expect the same demensions of the field and the same player stations. All we can do is cross our finger for at least a stationary obstical...

Also, take a look at the "Alternating Match..." text in the upper-left. Alternating is spelled incorrectly.

My father is a mentor on the Bishop Guertin Team 811, and tonight at the get together at Dean Kamen's house he said that Kamen denied all of the rumors like these.
Maybe he hasn't seen them all.....but I doubt it. These are probably close though, as Woody Flowers gave a hint that was the quadratic formula usually used with projectiles.
We'll know tomorrow

It's the same way in the old field drawing. Nice try team222badbrad but we've got you beat. Pretty quickly too.
That Confirmed Game Information thread sounded pretty good though. A lot of thinking must have gone into that one, unless it's true of course....
Only a few more hours.

I think we have found out this years game early...
The Quad in Quadratic stands for the 4 squares in the center and the formula is used to calculate how to shoot the footballs.

Ditto. But it's more embarrasing when it's caught on a webcam for ever and ever... or at least till I decide to delete the screenshots

Did anyone notice how much these 2 drawings have in common???
Bduggan04
04-01-2003, 17:22
Actually I don;t think thos two layouts could be less alike.
1. Your field has the scoring zones in the middle and the start zones on the ends. The FIRST Layout has scoring zones in the end and robot start zones on the outside of the middle.
2. Your field is 48' long, FIRST's is 54'
3. you have balls in the players station, FIRST doesn't even have balls.
4. You have no ramp.
5. You don't have separate player's station.
I could go on, but truth be told if he can claim this looks like FIRST's field, I can claim that the half circles were taken from the rainbows in my lucky charms idea.

IT WAS A JOKE!!!!!!
Brandom Martus made Rumor Mill for a reason!!! I put it to use.....
IT only took me less than 30 minutes to come up with the idea and post it on here.
I confess I did make this fake RUMOR
SORRY TO ALL WHOM BELIEVED THIS FOR A WHILE!!!

Actually, believe it or not, that is what the playing field looks like this year. I was at the Novi Kick-Off today.

What??? - The drawing looks nothing like the field. There are NO Balls in the game but they are in the pic. There is NO ramp in the pic. Aside from the fact that it's square and used the standard alliance format, it's a complete fake. :)

Chill- don't be so gullible- Hailfire is obviously pulling your leg. As a matter of fact, I think he may have ripped it off.

:ahh:
The really ironic part out of all of this is the fact you people seem to forget all about what FIRST is really about as you sit here bashing eachother.
For the past 3 days (including today), I've been helping set up for this year's kickoff. I was also out on stage today. I was the girl in the red shirt @ the driver's station. I've known what the challenge was since Thursday. It was pretty funny (and sad) to get on these forums after discussing them with some of the employees from FIRST. I so badly wanted to get on Thursday night and say "I know what the challenge is. Quit the pointless bashing! You're all mostly wrong."
As we all know, we have the capabilities and the knowledge to get on here, and post a well fabricated rumor, including pictures, diagrams, .pdf files and everything. Anyone of us could get on here and do that. Pointing a finger at the do-er is POINTLESS! It accomplishes nothing, except for your own personal satisfaction that you caught someone intelligent enough to create their own idea for a years challenge.
Just remember next year, around kickoff time. Discuss the challenge, criticize concepts, but don't bash eachother. Do that, and you've missed what FIRST is all about.

Actually, I saw that picture directly from the Us FIRST website. Also, how could I rip it off? I'm on a complete rookie team. I don't know anything about this stuff.

Scorpion: Chill. The rumor mill is supposed to be fun, and it's kind of neat to see people's ideas for the current year's game. :)
Hailfire: The picture Brad made was fake - the real one is posted on the FIRST homepage (http://www.usfirst.org/robotics).
Brad: Interesting drawing. :) Looked pretty real at first!!
Everyone: Like Brad said, lighten up - this is what the rumor mill was created for ... not for people to bash each other, but to have a little fun. :yikes:
- Katie
Whoops! :)
- I now realise what you ment!
I never saw the last immage that team222badbrad posted. (The actual drawing of the field.) I thought that you were talking about the first fake pic. :)
Now, yes... The pic that was attached IS the offical drawing for this years game.
Sorry all
PS: Hailfire don't think that just becasue SCHS is new they won't be good or that you don't know anything. - Heck, RHS has had some pretty bad bots after quite a few years. (But... personal note: 201 will be winning the champ. this year :))
Halifire obviously has not been reading the entirety of the post. He is referring to the correct diagram that was posted, not badbrad's fake.
BTW: I don't think Brandon made the Rumour Mill for the purpose of making up false information to get people all worked up. His intent was most likely to have a place for real, serious users to post information that they may have discovered.

Don't count on it. We already have some good ideas planned for some possibilities we could use for being both offensive and defensive. Remember what the video said at Novi? "Don't underestimate the power of rookie teams"

You might be our alliance partners - Then we would both win. :)

As an avatar of the great goddess of grammar (Heil Apostrophe!), I am obligated to point out for your educational benefit the great error made in the following quote.
SORRY TO ALL WHOM BELIEVED THIS FOR A WHILE!!!
The objective form of the relative pronoun should never be used as a subject of a sentence as whom is used here. Let this be a lesson to all ye evil doers in this world!

You should never talk off the field. That is the one thing that i have never done. If you have anything to say, 1) It's not within FIRST Gratious Professionalism 2)You should never speak, you never know when your robot is gonna break down...
And NEVER SAY WHO IS GOING TO WIN UNTIL YOU HAVE WON!! You can start flame wars...
Comon now...:ahh:

Hey if you guys have a problem with little brad you have a problem with me. just a little bit more in his defence the object of this thread was to break the tension that develops right before kick off. All in good clean nerdy fun. ;)
