If I'm not mistaken, Woody and Dean announced today that the pits would NOT be held in reliant park stadium, that in fact, they would be held "next door" at the astrodome...how in the world are they going to organize that???

i'd asume a very big tent like thing set up spanning between the two...with monitors and stuff so you know whats happening in both

I understand your idea, but doesn't a major street seperate the two stadiums? And you can't exactly shut off traffic on major street in a major city!
Does anybody know as to how far it is between the two?

Well.. I don't know how accurate it is, but take a look at this map: http://www.houstontexans.com/photos/parking_map012802.gif
personally, i'm not worried. I think that they will have a VERY easy way to get between the two. And communication, it really isn't any different than it was between the different tents at Orlando.
I really think this will be the best Champ. ever!
PS: This really should be in the 'Champ' forum :)

basically the same thing, shows entrances/exits a bit more. I assume there will be an open tent-like structure between the two.
Alright, thanks. Now it doesn't seem that bad at all.

He said it would be a short walk between the two 50-yard lines, I don't forsee any problems. Calm down!

that's probably why it took so long to get all the info out bout nationals. however, i doubt the FIRST crew would not have a really cool way to get there planned. i only wish cyberblue was going.
Does anyone know if there might possibly be an underground tunnel between the two structures?

That would be the best thing ever, if each team was loned like 2 segways for the pitcrew guys, that would rock!

Yeah Segway loaners would rock but think about how many $5000 Segways that would take. They'd only be able to sell them as used after so they would lose a ton of money. 100s of thousands of dollars. I think that Segway and FIRST have better things to do with the money.

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of a tunnel or elevated walkway.

can you just imagine if it rained?
walkway doesn't sound so feasible, eh?

People tell me that it rains a lot in Houston at that time of year. Somehow that makes me think that the FIRST people are likely to have thought about that. The people from the venue would have brought it up at the very least. They have to want this to work because it is a very good thing for them.

thats why they chose the reliant complex, it has a movable roof :)

I just hope everyone has a robot transportation device so they don't have to carry it all the way.

From the map, there is a minor access road between the astrodome and the Reliant Stadium. Im assuming that the Reliant Complex people will close off that section of road so teams have a clear path through. Im guessing the distance from the Pits to the fields is about the same as the distance from the middle of the pits to the einstein fieldd (if we were comparing this to EPCOT)

These two pics should give you an idea of the distance -- they actually look quite close...
