More Pneumatics Limits

I'm being bothered by my team about the limits of the pneumatics system - does anybody happen to know how much pressure we can have at any given point in the system? Can we charge the 2" storage cylinders to something over 60? Do we have to do something to limit some given part of your system to 60 PSI? How confused am I getting this time?

last year the total pressure could not exceed 120 psi. i dont think that has changed but you'd have to check the rules.

You can have your tanks at 120 psi but the rest of the system can only run at 60 psi.

and altho the rules dont state it.. the pressure gauge MUST be in the system... we left it out in 2001 because of weight concerns and FIRST made us put it on so that the inspector could check the pressure and it had to be left on.

This is somewhat of a grey area that somebody should probably check with FIRST about. We also left out the gauge last year because of weight (129.7 lbs!), and, like you, the judges made us put it in to check the pressure. I've never understood why, since the Norgren relief valve won't go above 60psi, but that's another topic altogether... However, the judges allowed us to remove it immediately upon seeing that we were indeed set to 60psi. Oh well.

Yep thats what we told them too.. that the regulator wouldent do over 60.. he said it still needs to be there.. and then he made us keep it on...

Am i correct in assumeing that this years system can only get upto 115lbs of presure due to the fact the presure switch operates between 95 and 115 psi?

The rules state that you can store up to 120psi. The difference between 115 and 120 is so negligible that I wouldn't worry about it in the lease.

You don't have to use the switch if you don't want to. You can run the pump continuously and let the pressure relief valve do it's job.

Now granted, I'm not sure why the extra 5 psi is worth overworking your compressor, but it's a possibility ;)
