Not much rules about food... Just that keep food and drink of the pit area. That's about it.
Oh yeah, and clean up your own mess. That should be common sense already :P.

It depends on the venue - many have rules about bringing in food and beverages from the outside. I would suggest that you check with the Regional Committee of the Regionals you are planning on attending.

At the Canadian Regional last year the security people freaked at us when we tried to bring in take-out food. (they want you to buy the over-priced food they sell on site).
Bringing take-out could be an issue, but just like little snacks, I would be surprised if they really cared.

Yeah, at Midwest Regional last year, they were kind of picky about you bringing food into the venue. They really wanted teams to buy the food that they were selling there.

It's a union thing in most cases. We all know those union folks get all worked up when they don't get the work to do. I know in the past this was the reason for no FIRST gear at regionals.

We weren't even allowed to bring in bottled water to the Midwest Regional last year. When we tried, the employees there were extremely rude and treatened to kick us out. So my advice is: ask first at the event site. We never thought bottled water would be a problem. They were treating people with a similar lack of respect for trying to bring in candy and other snacks. I'm surprised the drinking fountain didn't have a quarter slot on it.

it definitely depends on the regional- last year at Drexel University food was allowed, but at VCU they prohibited it..
I even remember how on the last day of VCU two other guys and I decided to grab some food for the 6 hour bus ride back.. One security guard caught us bringing the bags in and refused to let us go any further with the bags.. We had to stow them under some tables at the entrance..
Five minutes later I just went back when she wasn't looking and grabbed them..
You can't blame me for doing something wrong- they wanted us to buy from the snack bar but there wasn't any drinks or edible food..

Well, I know at the GLR, they didn't care. We brought 2-3 boxes of Krispy Kreme Donughts/day for the comptitions.
As for the Canadian Regional...That is a different story. They wouldn't even allow an outside crumb stumble in. My guess it would have to do w/ some union stuff...

Hehe.... we smuggled pop into the Midwest regional. They yelled at us the first time, so the second time we put cans in our cargo pockets. 2 of us brought in 15 cans. I'm surprised noone noticed our full pockets...

At the KSC regional last year there was no problem with bringing food, most teams brought a few coolers worth of food and our team brought lots of sliced meat and bread for sandwiches every day. They were probably so lax because it was held on KSC property in a tent and the only other place was the food court at one of there buildings that was understaffed anyhow, so they were glad we brought our own lunches.

I still have my bagel from last year! (obviously not a real bagel, it was a a really cool stuffed animal type one).
If you're thinking mass distribution, maybe do it outside infront because 1) there's not that much room in the pit area and 2) the people at the LA convention center are pretty strict, a guy on our team had to put his subway sandwhich in his hat on his head to get it in because we were about to compete but he was starving. good times.

Thats why we kept food in coolers in our trailer outside the venue. When it was time for lunch, we went in "shifts" ate lunch outside in the back of the pickup truck that pulled our trailer ;)
If you guys want to bring food in just put in under a buch of team shirts in a box or crate so if someone looks in when you first get there tey will se shirts.
You could always ship you bagels with the bot.

it looks like a bagel cut in half but its made out of fabric and stuffed and you can seperate the layers. it also have fake cream cheese on the inside (other bagels had other fillings) and the top has eyes on it. its really cool!

Hey guys...I work at the venue that the NH regional is being held at....and I guarentee they will not let you bring in your own food...they are really stuck up about that...
oh...not sure if they are going to do this, but i know at all the events we have, we take the caps off the waters and bottled sodas....sooooo...bring your own caps from home...seriously...no lie....
and the food is kinda expensive...but they were talking about making it cheaper because its a mostly teenager event..but who knows...

Only 2-3 boxes of Krispy Kremes per day? Man, if I did that, my very next question would be "what am I going to do for LUNCH?"

have any bagel pets left? could you ship one to me? my team would love that.... we spent the entire nationals laughing at ducks because one sounded like it said aflack... what we could do with a bagel: oh the possibilities
Food at regionals= slightly better than airline food and the trash they feed to inmates that pigs reject.( well... its not quite that bad...)
Can you say price gouging? I paid like 3 or 4 dollars for a snickers at SVR. they didnt have any real food worth eating, so we went over to the student union, which was very reasonable, and had some edible food.

Yeah, I remember at the Canadian regional that our team financial/trip manager went out to get us 30 Subways. Upon returning, we all had to sit out in front before the entrance to eat them as the people there seemed to get really pissed off when we didn't buy their $5 french fries or the like. I'm going to smuggle stuff in this year in our control box which I'm building... has lots of internal storage space :)
The food is part of the rental price consideration.
And sponsership.
If I recall correctly, at VCU we could bring in Pepsi, but not Coke products. Brand awareness is a big deal.
Anywho...who needs anything but broken gears and some oil.:)

Yeah, the bagels at SoCal were cool last year (thx 702). My friend and I wanted to bring in bagels for our team during the competition, so we go out, buy bagels and when we get to the front door the seurity guards had to go through a rigorous inspection of our bags. Oh well, in the end there was food. The problem with the Sports Arena is that they have 2 food stands (yes 2), they are really overpriced (i think it was 5.50 for a slice of pizza) and they dont sell food until 12:00 in the afternoon. This needs to be addressed. Our team just went out to the KFC near the sports arena and this way we had nurishment.
