Programming port input?

What do you think the verdict from first will be. Im guessing that they might say that it is legal to gather input through the programming port but not send output. this would be cool.

Be very careful when sending or receiving data through the programming port as it makes it impossible to use DEBUG commands. Also, you've got to be careful not to set DTR high or the RC will think it is receiving a program and lock down. This is one of the biggest hurdles I went through with RoboCon, and it wasn't any fun trying to figure it out without DEBUG commands.
