View Full Version : Qotw [01-26-03]: Sumo Match list of the year...

Ken Leung
26-01-2003, 18:24
Question 01/26/03:

Hi all. Due to popular demand, the sumo match list is back again. Here is the deal:

You may suggest any FIRSTers in your choices
The match may have up to 4 people in it, a 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 sumo wrestling match
You may submit up to 3 choices only, so use them wisely. Depending on the case, we might increase the limit up to 5, if you have lots of great suggestions.

What's going to happen is, these people will dress up with the sumo suit in an imaginary sumo match, like these two egg heads in bottom picture (:| :

http://www.theforumisdown.com/uploadfiles/1102/bakermorellapose.jpg

There will be people helping you into the suit as described in the following picture, so don’t worry about preparing for this.

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pictures.php?s=&action=single&picid=2779&direction=DESC&sort=date&perrow=3&trows=4&quiet=verbose

The participants will then battle in a 1 on 1 fight in the art of sumo wrestling.

After the list is complete, we will see what we can do about making some of these matches happening.

Have fun!

#1 choice: Jason Morella vs. Woodie Flowers!

I can see the headlines now: "The Classroom Clash!" "The Blackboard Brawl!" "When Educators Engage!" "Upstart English Teacher vs. Wily Veteran Engineering Professor!"

Everyone who posts after me can take care of the matchup cliches.. for I personally want to see a match between one called "Ricksta121" and "Todd Derbishire [(sp?)]" :)

OneAngryDaisy
26-01-2003, 22:13
I' d personally like to see Dean and Will Smith hack it out.. I mean, Will's been in a few FIRST videos, so why not?

DJ Fluck vs Clark Gilbert : think of the Headlines: who is the better TechnoKat

After a bit of tension at Bash between us I think it would be appropriate for a college team matchup of epic proporations... WPI vs Clarkson....... Tom Schindler pitted against our very own JVN.....

E. The Kidd
26-01-2003, 22:45
For my First pick:

<deep movie trailer voice> It all started over a statue in the middle of New York Harbor and then, became something deeper. Now it's personal.....Coming to a Competition near you

Evan "The Kidd" of team 713....."Big" Mike of team 25 in "Liberty Island Brawl: Part 1" </deep movie trailer voice>

<thunderclap>

Yeah no contest.

1. Agility: Advantage D.J.

2. Quickness: Advantage D.J.

3. Strength: Advantage probably Clark (dont count me out yet)

4. Records in wrestling matches against Molly Menges: D.J.: 8-0 , Clark: not sure, but he has lost ;)

Overall Advantage D.J. :D

Match Ideas

Ashlee Snodgrass (973) Vs Katie Reynolds (93) (battle of the midgets!)

Ian W. (810) Vs Ricky Q. (269)

More to come....

Alternate Ideas:

Everyone remember the simpsons episode with Lisa thinking she had "The Simpson Gene" where at the end all of the Simpson males are in a big circle and 2 have pots on their heads and they run into each other and clunk pots? Now that would be a cool alternative :p

Oh, c'mon - everyone who knows me, knows that I am the weakest thing on the planet (next to DJ, that is!)

Hmm ... who would I like to see sumo it out?

Ricky v. DJ (as long as he can't slide under a fence, Ricky should be fine! ;))

Jim Gold v. Bill Gold (brotherly love? ... Or is it?)

Andy Baker v. Dave Lavery (That would just rule!)

... I think that's all :)

I will use up my first 2 choices... Only I combine them into a 8 person tournament :P, with 2 games of 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1. Each game will have 2 winners advance into the next round.

1st game
Andy Baker
Chris hibner
Lloyd Burns
Matt Reiland

2nd game
Paul Copioli
Raul
ChrisH
Rbayer

Then the winners from each of the game will get together for a 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 match.

Bill's goin' down!

Sean already challenged me to a sumo match if we're both at a regional with sumo.

(Jason, if you can get it for SVR again, I will be forever grateful, and stuff! :D)

Sorry Dave, I'm not that dumb. He knows the levels of gravitivity & polarity (obscure movie reference - I'll be impressed if anyone knows it) and would pull out all that physics stuff to beat me. Plus if I got desperate I'd have the urge to pull the pony tail, and that just can't be gracious or professional. ;) If YOU want to substitute in for Woody, I might take that challenge (but then some clever kid would throw a box of Krispy Kreme onto the mat, and it would turn into an ugly Gladiator battle. All fun and games until you're playing for KK)
(Jason, if you can get it for SVR again, I will be forever grateful, and stuff! )
Sorry Jim, bad economy and fewer sponsors this year, so as of now probably no team social (i.e. sumo) at SJSU this year.
(and no, NOT just so I can avoid facing Bill "Lion Heart" Gold in a sumo suit again)

EddieMcD
27-01-2003, 11:43
You guys sound like professional wrestling promoters...

Anyhow, Eddie's first pick: Dubbed the "Brawl For it All" match, Dean Kamen (who is known to cheat by using a segway as his preffered method of propulsion) vs. Woodie Flowers (but watch out, that pin vest makes good armor, and adds illegal weight. I personally know) vs. Dave Lavery (he'll whip out an advanced playing field for a sumo match if we're not careful) vs. Bob Hammond (he quotes rules and catches the opponents on technicallities which only he knows). Who will win?

Nobody knows.

On a side note... WRRF probably wouldn't mind paying for a sumo game at the SVR this year... Just a thought... We do have couple of thousands left over from the Cal Game...

I'm honored to be in such company, but my match would have to wait until at least the Championship. That's the only time Paul, Raul and I will have teams at the same event. That assumes the Beach'Bots actually GO. We're having the same sponsor issues as everybody else. I'm not sure about Rbayer, his team isn't registered yet

It's probably a good thing that we don't have a rematch. Not that I'm afraid or anything... it's just that knowing our luck, we'll both end up being sick when the regional comes around. You've still got me beat in the illness competition Jason (LA 2001) ;)

Hey, hey, hey.

I'm supposed to be the pacifist here! :p

Ian, Wetzel, and me against Big Mike. I'll still have money riding on Mike, though.

Ian: you'd better start packing on some weight, I don't want Wetzel and me to take the most of the beating. :)

My pick- The Joisey Quartet

Big Mike of team 25, Big Mike II of team 1089, Paul Kloberg of 303 and Wayne C. of 25 (me)-

together over 1000lbs of brute force and a barrel of fun

We'll take on all comers....

Here would be a good crew to oppose the "Joisey Quartet"

Let me introduce you to the "Indiana Meatheads":

Joel Boucher of 535
Mike Koiro or 234
Scott Ritchie of 234
Andy Baker of 45

Joel and Scott played football (a long, long time ago) at Ball State, while Mike played football for Joe Pa at PSU. As for myself, I wrestle pigs. :) We'll always have LA, Morrella!

Hey Baker,

You still owe me from LA - please don't tell me you've forgot the "Hey man, since my wife is watching, you think you could throw the sumo match for me and make me look good? I'll pay you $20." discussion.

I notice you're not coming out to LA this year - rumor is you're not coming out SOLELY to avoid the sumo rematch, knowing that I won't take it easy on you (or be caught off guard by the "I used to do this to pigs" psyche out) :)

we can make a first "commertial", you know compose a video of all the sumo matches. Have some spectator coments. Definatly need a PA system and an anouncer. Just imagine: "And in this corner we have the...."

On the other hand we could have team vs team TUG-O-WAR
