Travel Team?

With all this talk about robots, what about the students behind them? Last year our team was about 25 students strong, and this year we have less than a dozen students traveling with us

Last year, our entire team came with us (minus one who forgot to fill out some forms or something like that), but this year we are trying to hold back slightly and make sure we don't have to many leechers coming with us.

Usually our whole team would go (about 50 kids are so...maybe alittle more) now we have a team of 10...so all 10 of us

To the CR: Everyone from the team, and then some (random ppl from school, parents, teachers, sponsors, etc...)(this is our local competition)

To the GLR: 24 People (20 kids, 4 adults).

To Nats: 20 People (16 kids, 4 adults).

We basically did a "whoever wants to come, and can pay, can come" thing. Those are the numbers that it ended up being.

This year we have a smaller team. Its about 18 kids. In past years we've had 25-35 and taken everyone to the regionals. Thats to many to keep busy in building the robot and watch in New York. So far "knock on wood" things are going great. It looks like we're taking all to regionals and everyone is invited to nationals. The only thing is we don't have the big sponsors and have to pay our own way there. So you know what that means. Only the ones with $$$ will be going. Someday we might have the sponsors that some of you have but until then,.... we pay our own way.

I really think they should lower the cost for nationals i really think they could get more team that way.....

for regionals, the team picks up the cost of travel for us.
for nationals, the costs come out of our own pockets.

we have most of the team goto regionals, while whomever can afford to go to nationals goes since we have no corporate sponsorship to pay our way.

Usually... the whole team is invited to the MidAtlantic Regional if you have put in significant time during the season and maintain good grades and academic standing......

....this year, we will be going to two Regionals, and it is undecided as too how many members will be going with the floor team to the Regionals.

Nationals... now CE.... we send a smaller group, because not as many people can pay the travel cost... usually around 40 people go including advisors, parents, teachers, engineers, alumni, etc.

Post-season.... last year (2002)... for the first time, we actually participated in the post season.... PARC, since it is about 1-2 hours away (depending on what side of the county you live on), you have to provide your own transportation..... MD Fair/NASA.. we took a skeleton team of 8 students (including the floor team).... with the money that we won at NASA/MD Fair, anyone who wanted too could go to the Duel on the Deleware.... however, the floor team didn't travel due to SAT testing..... and for Ramp Riot, I think there were a total of 20 people that showed up in some way or another.

we have always taken the entire team. In 2000 we had aout 15 i think (it was before i joined). In 2001 we had again about 15. 2002 we were inactive, although we modified our 2001 bot to do minicompetitions, and we started with a team of about 6 and increased to about 14. This year we are again inactive, but we have a team of about 16, 17, maybe 18 people.

inactivity is due to lack of $$. And we stay a team so we can fundriase for 2004.

Just because we are officially inactive doesn't mean we arent going to have a team. We are going to make sure we arent inactive for a 3rd year (2004)

We take our whole team everywhere, but that's only 15-20 people, max.
