it says that the control system may not be modified except in the following ways:

and it lists nothing.

Does anyone else think that 30 seconds are a bit harsh? That is almost 1/3 of the driver control time!

not really. It has to be harsh in order to maintain the switch's function as an EMERGENCY stop.

if they didn't do this, than it could easily transform from the "press me so i don't kill someone" button into the "press me when I'm in the right position to score points when the autonomous period ends" button

i think that its a good idea to take some time out of the driver control time, but not that much. It used to be if it looks like its going to be bad you hit the switch trying to save your robot, now its going to be, well i hope we survive, and in that case the feild and other robots. i think 15secs would be a better number.

I agree we should not be allowed to use th e-stop for frivolous reasons, but it has many legitimate uses. We all know that in the 15 seconds autonomous period, some robots are gonna malfunction and go kinda haywire. If the robot presents a danger to the feild, other robots, etc. You should be able to disable it without penalty. I think they should have no time penalty but make using it for no safety reason a dq'able offense. With the 30 second penalty, you are essentially asking drivers to willingly forfeit the match (30 seconds ,in addition to the already lost 15 seconds, is a LONG time) when their robot may pose a safety penalty. If they are gonna be punishing us so severely for using the e-stop, we should not be held accountable for any damage our robot does during the autonomous period.
